A structure for a thin film transistor LCD includes a data line extending in a first direction; a source electrode protruded for a predetermined length from the data line; a gate electrode in a second direction so as to be overlapped with a portion of the source electrode and the data line; and a drain electrode of which a portion is overlapped with the gate electrode. The drain electrode is bent according to the contours of the data line and the source so that wider channel can be obtained even without increasing the width of the gate electrode. A pixel electrode is connected to a region of the drain which is not overlapped with the gate electrode and positioned at the inner side of the region forming the data line and the gate electrode.

Structure for TFT-LCD

An array substrate for an in-plane switching liquid crystal display device includes a substrate, a gate line and a common line on the substrate, the gate and common lines disposed parallel to and spaced apart from each other, a gate insulator on the gate and common lines, and a data line substantially perpendicular to the gate and common lines on the gate insulator such that a pixel region defined by the gate and data lines. The pixel region is divided into first and second pixel region by the common line. A thin film transistor is adjacent to a crossing portion of the gate and data lines, the thin film transistor having a drain electrode. A first storage electrode is on the gate insulator over the common line, and the first storage electrode connected to the drain electrode. A second storage electrode is on the gate insulator over the gate line, and the second storage electrode connected to the first storage electrode. A common electrode is connected to the common line and has a plurality of extended portions at the first pixel region perpendicular to the common line. A first pixel electrode at the first pixel region is connected to the drain electrode and has a plurality of extended portions perpendicular to the common line. The plurality of extended portions of first pixel electrode alternate with the plurality of extended portions of common electrode.

A method of fabricating a liquid crystal display device includes forming an embossed reflective electrode. In the method, the embossed reflective electrode is embossed via a dry-etching method with a mixture of SF &plus;O or CF &plus;O gases, or with oxygen gas, such that a plurality of small concave and convex portions are formed on the reflective electrode. Since the concave and convex portions of the reflective electrode diffuse light, high luminance and wide viewing angle can be achieved.

LCD device having a reflective electrode and a fabricating method thereof

The present invention provides a transflective LCD device that has a common contrast ratio in both the transmissive mode and the reflective mode. It also discloses a transflective LCD device that has an equal luminance in both the transmissive mode and the reflective mode. The transflective LCD device includes first and second substrates; a transparent conductive electrode on the first substrate; a lower passivation layer on the transparent conductive electrode; a reflective electrode formed on the lower passivation layer, the reflective electrode including a transmitting hole; a first QWP (quarter wave plate) under the first substrate; a lower polarizer formed under the first QWP; a second QWP on the second substrate; an upper polarizer formed on the second QWVP; an upper passivation layer under the second substrate; a transparent common electrode under the upper passivation layer; a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and second substrates; and a backlight device arranged below the second substrate.

Transflective liquid crystal display device

An array substrate for a liquid crystal display device, including a substrate, at least one gate line and at least one gate electrode formed on the transparent substrate, a gate insulating layer formed over the at least one gate line and the at least one gate electrode, a silicon layer formed on the gate insulating layer, the silicon layer being positioned above the at least one gate electrode, a source electrode and a drain electrode formed on the silicon layer and spaced apart from each other with the silicon layer overlapped therebetween, wherein the at least one gate electrode, the source electrode, the drain electrode, and the silicon layer comprise a thin film transistor (TFT), at least one data line, a first passivation layer covering the at least one data line, a reflective electrode covering a portion of a pixel region defined by the at least one gate line and the at least one data line, a second passivation layer formed on the reflective electrode, and a transparent electrode formed on the second passivation layer, wherein the transparent electrode is disposed in the pixel region.

An array substrate of the transflective LCD device that includes forming a reflective plate on the substrate at first. An array substrate of transflective LCD device, including: a substrate having switching elements and a pixel region; a reflective plate formed on the substrate and having a light transmitting hole; a first insulating layer formed on the reflective plate while covering the light transmitting hole; a gate electrode formed on the first insulating layer over the reflective plate; a gate insulating layer formed on the first insulating layer while covering the gate electrode; an active layer formed on the gate insulating layer over the gate electrode and having a channel region; an ohmic contact layer formed on the active layer; source and drain electrodes formed on the ohmic contact layer and spaced apart from each other; a second insulating layer formed on the gate insulating layer while covering the source and drain electrode, the second insulating layer having a drain contact hole which exposes the predetermined portion of the drain electrode; and a pixel electrode formed on the second insulating layer and contacting the drain electrode through the drain contact hole.

Transflective liquid crystal display device and method of manufacturing the same

The present invention discloses A transflective liquid crystal display device including a first substrate having a color filter; a second substrate having: a)a gate electrode formed on the second substrate; b) a first insulating layer formed on the exposed surface of the second substrate while covering the gate electrode; c) a semiconductor layer formed on the first insulating layer and over the gate electrode; d)a source electrode overlapping one end portion of the semiconductor layer; e) a drain electrode overlapping the other end portion of the semiconductor layer and spaced apart from the source electrode; f) a second insulating layer formed on the exposed surface of the first insulating layer while covering the source and drain electrode, having a first contact hole formed on a portion of the drain electrode; g) a pixel electrode formed on the second insulating layer and electrically connected with the drain electrode through the first contact hole; h) a third insulating layer on the pixel electrode and having a second contact hole over the first contact hole; and i) a reflective electrode formed on the third insulating layer and having a light transmitting hole and electrically connected with the pixel electrode through the second contact hole, the light transmitting hole transmitting light and covered by the pixel electrode; a liquid crystal display layer interposed between the first and second substrates; and a back light device for supplying light and located under the second substrate.

A liquid crystal display has an increased aperture ratio achieved by an increased area surrounded by the pixel electrode in a pixel area. However, this may result in poor image quality due to the excited interference voltage that is generated by parasitic capacitance created by the overlap of the pixel electrode and the data lines. At different portions of the data lines, the area of overlap between the pixel electrode and the data lines are different. Thus, to eliminate the excited interference voltage and enhance image quality, the thickness of the dielectric member between the pixel electrodes and the data lines is different so that the parasitic capacitance of the parasitic capacitors is about the same.
