An apparatus and method for retransmission in a wireless communication system. The method includes transmitting data to a Mobile Station (MS), identifying if there is an error in the transmitted data through a control message, if there occurs an error in the data, allocating resources for retransmitting data for erroneous data, transmitting information on the resources allocated for retransmission, to the MS, and retransmitting the data for the erroneous data to the MS.

A broadband wireless communication system using a fixed allocation scheme is provided. An apparatus and method for circuit mode resource allocation in a Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) system is disclosed. The method includes generating a first resource allocation message which comprises currently used slot bitmap information with respect to a circuit mode region in a frame; allocating resources to one or more terminals with respect to currently unused slots in the circuit mode region according to the currently used slot bitmap information; and generating a second resource allocation message which comprises information relating to the resource allocation. Thus, the effective circuit mode resource allocation can be achieved without holes in the circuit mode, while maintaining backward compatibility with the existing standards.

An apparatus and method for UpLink (UL) radio resource allocation in a wideband wireless communication system are provided. In a method of operating a Relay Station (RS) for UpLink (UL) radio resource allocation in a wideband wireless communication system, the method includes relaying to a Base Station (BS) a resource request message of at least one or more Mobile Stations (MSs); receiving data from the at least one or more mobile stations; if the received data is non-real time traffic, queuing the data received from the mobile stations according to a traffic type; and requesting the base station to allocate necessary radio resources by checking a queue status. Accordingly, a delay can be reduced when the UL resource is allocated to an relay station for real time traffic.

Apparatus and method for allocating uplink radio resource in wideband wireless communication system

A method for transmitting/receiving data in a communication system using multiple frequency bands. The transmission method includes fragmenting a desired transmission Service Data Unit (SDU) in units of Packet Data Units (PDUs); and transmitting the fragmented PDUs over at least two frequency bands among the multiple frequency bands. Each of the multiple frequency bands is supported by a system having backward compatibility with a legacy system. The reception method includes decrypting a wireless resource (MAP) allocated separately for each of the frequency bands to extract fragment information therefrom; and receiving PDUs over the frequency bands separately, and restoring the SDU according to fragment information corresponding to the corresponding frequency band.

Method and apparatus for transmitting/receiving data in a communication system using multiple frequency bands
