A battery includes an electrode assembly including a first electrode, a second electrode, and a separator between the first electrode and second electrode, a first portion including an active material extending between a pair of first sides, and a second portion extending between the pair of first sides and exposed beyond the separator, at least a part of the second portion includes an electrode tab; a battery housing having a first end with a first opening, a second end opposite the first end, and an inner surface, the battery housing accommodating the electrode assembly; a first current collector including a tab coupling portion coupled to the second portion of the first electrode and a housing coupling portion extending from the tab coupling portion and electrically coupled to the inner surface of the battery housing; and a cap covering the first opening of the battery housing.

An electrode assembly, a battery, and a battery pack and a vehicle including the same are provided. In the electrode assembly, a first electrode, a second electrode, and a separator interposed therebetween are wound based on an axis to define a core and an outer circumference. The first electrode includes a first portion coated with an active material and a second portion at a first side and adjacent the first portion, the second portion being exposed beyond the separator along a first axial direction of the electrode assembly. A part of the second portion is bent in a radial direction of the electrode assembly forming a first surface region including stacked layers of the second portion, and in a partial region of the first surface region, a number of the stacked layers of the second portion is 10 or more in the in the first axial direction.

An electrode assembly, a battery, a battery pack and a vehicle including the same are provided. In the electrode assembly, the uncoated portion of an electrode includes a segment region divided into a plurality of segments, and the segment region includes a plurality of segment groups separated by a group separation pitch along a winding direction. One end of the electrode assembly includes a plurality of segment alignments. In winding turns corresponding to the plurality of segment alignments, group separation pitches of segment groups disposed in a same winding turn are substantially identical, and separation pitches of the segment groups is greater in a winding turn of a region adjacent to the outer circumference of the electrode assembly than in a winding turn of a region adjacent to the core of the electrode assembly.

An electrode assembly, a battery, and a battery pack and a vehicle including the same are provided. One end of the electrode assembly includes a plurality of segment alignments in which the plurality of segment groups are aligned along a radial direction, and an electrolyte impregnation portion provided between segment alignments adjacent in a circumferential direction, wherein an end of the first active material portion is exposed between winding turns of the separator. The segments included in the segment alignment are bent toward the core to form a bending surface region. An end of the separator is spaced apart from a criterion line extending in a winding axis direction along a location corresponding to the plurality of cut grooves by 30% or less of a minimum height of the segments forming the bending surface region.

The electrode assembly can have a first electrode, a second electrode and a separator between the first electrode and the second electrode. Each of the first electrode and the second electrode can have a first portion including an active material corresponding to the separator, and a second portion exposed beyond the separator and not coated with the active material. The battery housing can have a first end with a first opening and a second end with a second opening opposite the first end. The terminal can be electrically connected to the second portion of the first electrode and exposed out of the battery housing through the first opening of the battery housing at the first end.

A battery can include an electrode assembly having a first electrode, a second electrode and a separator. The first electrode can include a first active material region coated with an active material layer along a winding direction and a first uncoated region not coated with the active material layer, and at least part of the first uncoated region used as an electrode tab. The battery can further include a first current collector coupled to at least part of the first uncoated region on the electrode assembly, a battery housing to accommodate the electrode assembly and the first current collector, and an insulator between an inner surface of the battery housing facing the first uncoated region or the first current collector and the first uncoated region or the first current collector to block the electrical connection between the first uncoated region and the battery housing.

An electrode assembly includes a first electrode; a second electrode; and a separator, the first electrode, the second electrode, and the separator wound about an axis defining a core and an outer circumference of the electrode assembly. The first electrode has a pair of first sides and a pair of second sides, a first portion extending between the pair of first sides, and a second portion extending between the pair of first sides, the first portion being coated with an active material, and at least a part of the second portion includes an electrode tab. The second portion includes a first part adjacent to the core of the electrode assembly, a second part adjacent to the outer circumference of the electrode assembly, and a third part between the first part and the second part. The first or second part has a smaller height than the third part.
