A lithium battery system includes a first battery pack including a plurality of first battery cells connected in series. The first battery pack is configured to be connected in parallel to an alternator and a second battery pack, and has a lower capacity than the second battery pack. A negative electrode of each of the first battery cells includes a negative electrode active material. The negative electrode active material includes a carbon-based material having an interlayer spacing of a (002) plane of 0.34 nm to 0.50 nm in X-ray diffraction measurement using copper (Cu) K&#x3b1; lines.

There is provided a battery pack including a mixed cell and a power device including the same. The mixed cell may include a first cell and a second cell having different electrical characteristics. The electrical characteristics may include at least one of an open circuit voltage characteristic corresponding to a state of charge, an internal resistance, an operation voltage, or a capacity.

A battery management system (BMS) and a method of controlling the same are disclosed. In one embodiment, the BMS includes a reference setup unit configured to set a charge completion value used to calculate a state of health (SOH) of the battery, wherein the battery comprises one or more battery packs each including a plurality of battery cells, and a charge amount calculation unit configured to calculate an amount actually charged in the battery from a first point in time when charging of the battery begins to a second point in time when the battery charging actually reaches the charge completion value. The BMS may further include an SOH calculation unit configured to calculate the SOH of the battery based on a ratio of i) the actual charge amount to ii) a preset charge amount expected to be charged from the first time point to the second time point.
