A method of driving a display panel includes providing a first clock signal having a first frequency and a second clock signal having a second frequency different from the first frequency. The method also includes providing a data signal of an N-th frame image to the display panel using the first clock signal, and providing a data signal of an (N+1)-th frame image to the display panel using the second clock signal. A timing controller for a display apparatus includes a polarity comparison part and a compensation part. The red, green, blue and white data are reconstructed by means of subpixel rendering to generate metameric sets dot pixels composed for example of one such dot pixel having red and green color components and another such dot pixel having blue and white color components such that when the metameric set dot pixels is lit up it produces a white colored region on the display apparatus and when un-lit it appears as contrastingly dark colored region on the display apparatus. By selectively forcing one metameric set of dot pixels to be un-lit, the method allows an immediately adjacent metameric set of dot pixels to be lit-up as a contrasting white region on the display apparatus.

A method of processing data for driving a display panel including a pixel structure including red, green, blue and white (RGBW) sub-pixels includes receiving red, green and blue (RGB) data at a first frame frequency. A 3D image display device includes a data receiving unit receiving frame data. The frame data includes left eye image data and right eye image data. An image modification unit generates modification image data corresponding to one of the left eye image data and the right eye image data. The modification image data corresponding to the left eye image data is based on left eye image data of a current frame and left eye image data of a next frame. The modification image data corresponding to the right eye image data is based on right eye image data of the current frame and right eye image data of the next frame. A method of controlling a luminance of a light source is presented. The method entails generating red, green, blue and white data using red, green and blue data, applying a color weight according to contribution to luminance by each of the red, green, blue and white data to generate pixel luminance data, setting a luminance level of the light source based on the pixel luminance data, determining local information on a pure color block in a frame image by using the pixel luminance data, and adjusting the luminance level of the light source based on the local information on the pure color block.
