A display apparatus includes a display panel, an afterimage compensator and a data driver. The display panel displays an image. The afterimage compensator writes first stress data of input image data corresponding to a first area to a first memory area in a first block size and second stress data of the input image data corresponding to a second area to a second memory area in a second block size different from the first block size and compensates a grayscale value of the input image data based on the first stress data and the second stress data. The data driver generates a data voltage based on a compensated grayscale value and outputs the data voltage to the display panel.

A display device includes a display panel including a display panel including a plurality of pixels, a memory device configured to store pre-scaling data and compensation data, and a panel driver configured to generate first image data by performing a pre-scaling operation on input image data based on the pre-scaling data, generate second image data by performing a compensation operation on the input image data based on the compensation data, and provide a driving signal to the pixels to display a pre-scaled image corresponding to the first image data, or to display a compensated image corresponding to the second image data, wherein the pre-scaling operation is performed before the compensation operation is performed.

A degradation compensation apparatus including: a calculator provided with gray data regarding a plurality of consecutive frames, the calculator calculating and outputting a frame degradation amount of a current frame, which indicates a degree of degradation of the current frame; a memory accumulating and storing the frame degradation amount of the current frame and outputting a cumulative degradation amount, which is an accumulated degree of degradation of frames up to the current frame; and a data corrector correcting the gray data for a subsequent frame based on the cumulative degradation amount. Each of the plurality of consecutive frames includes first and second blocks each having a plurality of pixels, and the frame degradation amount is calculated based on one of the pixels included in the first block and one of the pixels included in the second block.
