A plasma display device (PDP) and method of driving it (during an address period) are provided. Such a PDP has an address electrode for receiving an address pulse and a capacitor. Such an address pulse has states including a first voltage and a smaller second voltage smaller. Such a capacitor stores a third voltage that is between the first and third voltages. Such a method includes: coupling the capacitor to the address electrode via the inductor; firstly energizing, via the inductor, the address electrode with the third voltage stored in the capacitor; secondly energizing the address electrode with the first voltage; thirdly energizing, via the inductor, the capacitor with voltage on the address electrode; and fourthly energizing the address electrode with the second voltage. Real power transfer during the first and third energizations is facilitated via reactive power transfer arising from LC resonance.

Plasma display and driving method thereof

The present invention relates to a plasma display panel driving method and apparatus for reducing subfield position variation between display frames by arranging an idle period among the subfields. The subfields included in the frame may be divided into at least two subfield groups with reference to a predetermined weight value at which flicker may occur. An idle period, which is substantially a residual time of the frame excluding the subfields, may be arranged between two divided subfield groups. Accordingly, flicker caused by the variation of the number of subfields between frames can be prevented because of the reduced positional variation of the subfields.

A power supply for a plasma display device controls an output voltage by using a voltage divided by first resistors coupled to an output terminal, and outputs the output voltage as a driving voltage for driving a PDP. A PDP address data processor, a method thereof, and a recording medium for storing a program used to perform the method. The address data processor generates subfield data corresponding to RGB input video data, divides them into two sets of subfield data, and stores them in a frame memory using rising and falling edges of a reference clock signal of a frame memory. The address data processor reads and arranges the stored subfield data using the rising and falling edges to generate address data for representing gray on the PDP. The address data processor uses an RGB mixing algorithm for selecting two different video data from among the RGB input video data to select video data, and generates the subfield data corresponding to the selected video data.

Further, the starting positions of the second subfield group and the third subfield group in time order change according to the load ratio of the image signal.

Disclosed is a PDP image display method and device for dividing an image of each frame displayed on a PDP corresponding to an input video signal into subfields, each subfield corresponding to a bit that represents one of a plurality of luminance weights, combining luminance weights of the subfields, and displaying gray. The subfields include first and second subfield groups. A number of the subfields included in the second subfield group is greater than a number of the subfields included in the first subfield group. At least one of the subfields, which is used for forming low gray, is included in the second subfield group, and a start point of the second subfield group is varied according to a load ratio of the input video signal.

An image of each field displayed on a plasma display panel corresponding to input image signals is divided into sub-fields of different weights, the sub-fields being divided into two continuous sub-field groups having a different weighting value, and in which the weighting values of the sub-fields combine to display grays. An image display method and system for a plasma display panel. An image of each field displayed on the plasma display panel corresponding to input image signals is divided into sub-fields. Weighting values of the sub-fields are combined to display grays. The sub-fields are divided into three continuous groups. Sub-fields corresponding to a Least Significant Bit (LSB) and a LSB+1 of each sub-field data are included in a second sub-field, which is positioned in a middle of the three consecutive groups with respect to time. Therefore, a time difference between the LSB and the LSB+1 of the sub-field data with respect to images displayed by 50 Hz Phase Alternating by Line (PAL) image signals is reduced such that contour noise between low gray regions is diminished.

A plasma display panel includes a substrate, a dielectric layer formed on a top surface of the substrate, and partitions spaced a predetermined distance apart from each other and having a snaking or meandering shape. The partitions form channels having main discharge spaces and auxiliary discharge spaces alternately arranged and connected to each other. Red (R), green (G) and blue (B) phosphors are coated on the main discharge spaces in a triangular shape and where G and R phosphors are aligned with each other in a horizontal direction. The thicknesses of partitions forming the main discharge spaces where the R and G phosphors are coated are greater than thicknesses of the partitions forming the main discharge spaces where the B phosphor is coated.
