A backlight assembly and a display device including the backlight assembly include a light source which emits light, a light guide plate disposed adjacent to the light source and which receives the light emitted from the light source, a light source supporter including a bottom plane including a first region and a second region, and a first receiving unit including a bottom surface and a side wall. The light source and the light guide plate are disposed on the first region of the bottom plane, the second region extends from a portion of the first region on which the light source is disposed, the bottom surface is disposed opposite the light guide plate, and the side wall is disposed at an end portion of the bottom surface along a direction perpendicular to a plane defined by the bottom surface.

A liquid crystal display ('LCD') module includes a backlight assembly emitting light, a LCD panel overlapping the backlight assembly, and an upper cover. The backlight includes a light source module emitting the light, a light guide plate ('LGP') including edges and a middle portion, and a LGP support overlapping the edges of the LGP. The LGP support includes a plurality of LGP supporting pieces connected to each other so as to form a polygonal shape, each of the LGP supporting pieces including a LGP supporting portion including a LGP supporting surface overlapping the edges of the LGP, and the LGP supporting surfaces of each of the LGP supporting pieces of the LGP support are placed on a same plane. Opposing LGP supporting pieces are interconnected by an LCD module mounting member.

The lamp fixing holder comprises a lamp fixing body and a fixing member. The lamp fixing body holds a third portion of the face of the lamp. The second portion includes the third portion. In a backlight assembly and a liquid crystal display apparatus, the backlight assembly has lamps parallel to each other to emit a light, a receiving container having a bottom portion and a side portion to receive the lamps, and a mold member coupled to the receiving container to cover the ends of the lamps. The mold member has a reflecting face having a diffusion pattern that reflects the light from the lamps and an upper face extending from the reflecting face in a plane substantially parallel to the bottom portion. A flat fluorescent lamp includes a first substrate, a second substrate, an external electrode, and a radiating member. The second substrate is combined with the first substrate to form a plurality of discharge spaces. The external electrode is formed on at least one surface of the first substrate and the second substrate, wherein the external electrode extends perpendicularly to the discharge spaces. The radiating member is formed on the external electrode and radiates heat generated from the external electrode. Therefore, the heat generated from the flat fluorescent lamp is radiated to outside the flat fluorescent lamp through the radiating member, reducing pinhole formation and generally improving luminance characteristics of the flat fluorescent lamp.

Disclosed are a backlight assembly and a liquid crystal display device using the same. A ratio of a pitch, which is an interval between the lamps for supplying light to an LCD panel, to a gap, which is a distance between the center of the lamps and an optical plate, is adjusted to thereby minimize the bright line that badly influences the image display quality, so as to display a high quality image.
