A liquid crystal display device may include a backlight unit for providing light for the display. A backlight unit may include light modules. The light modules include colored LEDs surrounded by a first lens for refracting the light from the LEDs. A second lens surrounds the first lens for further refraction of the light to improve brightness and the uniformity of the light.

Light module and flat light unit in a liquid crystal display device

A backlight unit includes a plurality of fluorescent lamps driven by one inverter in a manner to prevent wave noise. A first common electrode line connects respective first ends of the odd numbered fluorescent lamps in common. A second common electrode line connects respective first ends of the even numbered fluorescent lamps in common. A third common electrode line connects the second ends of the odd and even numbered fluorescent lamps in common. Voltages having opposite phases are respectively applied to the first common electrode line and the second common electrode line.

A prism sheet capable of achieving an enhancement in light efficiency and viewing angle characteristics and a backlight unit using the prism sheet are disclosed. The prism sheet includes: a condensing film which transmits light incident to the condensing film; a plurality of prism crests on the condensing film having apexes; and a plurality of reflection patterns formed on the condensing film such that each of the reflection patterns faces a boundary of adjacent prism crests associated with the reflection pattern to reflect light incident onto the reflection patterns.

A lamp driving apparatus of a liquid crystal display includes a plurality of lamps arranged with a predetermined distance between adjacent lamps; a comparator to compare output voltages of lamps that are separated by more than the lamp distance; and a power interceptor to cut off the power supply of a lamp where mis-discharge is generated, in accordance with a comparison result of the comparator. A lamp driving method of a liquid crystal display which includes: comparing a designated reference voltage with lamp output voltages, and intercepting the power supply of the lamp of which the output voltage is different from the reference voltage to stop mis-discharge between lamps.
