The present invention relates to a method for simulating image quality improvement of an image display device, in which the image display device to be tested is made to display an optimized picture quality with a simplified process by applying simplified simulation program and device; and a device therefor. The method for simulating picture quality improvement of an image display device includes the steps of selecting at least one input image data from a list of plurality of test image data by using a file input/output interface unit of a simulation tool, selecting at least one image processing algorithm from a list of a plurality of image processing algorithms by using an image control interface unit, applying the at least one image processing algorithm selected thus to the at least one input image data to convert the at least one input image data by using an algorithm application control unit, comparing and determining at least one output image data converted and forwarded thus to the input image data, and analyzing characteristics of the output image data by using a resultant image analysis and control unit.

Simulation method for improving picture quality of image display device and a simulation device therefor

A liquid crystal display device and a video processing method of the same are disclosed. A video processing method of a liquid crystal display device includes a first step determining whether a current frame is a motion picture by comparing data of a current frame with data of a previous frame; a second step converting and outputting a number of bits of a white gradation data of the current frame and outputting data of the other gradations without the bit conversion, if it is determined in the first step that the current frame is the motion picture; a third step outputting the data of the current frame without the bit-conversion if it is determined in the first step that the current frame is a still image; and a fourth step comparing the data of the current frame outputted in the second or third step with data of a previous frame and outputting overdriving control (ODC) data converted based on the result of the comparison.

A backlight control unit for a liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal panel for displaying an image, a backlight for providing light to the liquid crystal panel, a gate driving unit and a data driving unit for driving the liquid crystal panel, a timing controller for outputting signals to control the gate driving unit and the data driving unit, and for outputting a dimming control signal to control a light output amount of the backlight according to representative gradation values obtained by analyzing red, green, and blue gradations included in inputted image data, and an inverter for controlling the backlight to control a light output amount from the backlight according to the dimming control signal outputted from the timing controller.
