An LCD device is disclosed which includes: at least one sensor module configured to sense an amount of external light; a liquid crystal display panel configured to display images; at least one light source module disposed under the liquid crystal display panel and configured to emit light; and at least one light guide plate configured to convert light from the at least one light source module into two-dimensional light and apply two-dimensional light to the liquid crystal display panel. The at least one light source module includes infrared LEDs and visible LEDs which are selectively driven according to a sensed light quantity sensed by the at least one sensor module and allow infrared light and visible light to be selectively emitted.

The backlight unit includes a plurality of light emitting lamps disposed above a cover bottom such that the light emitting lamps are arranged at regular intervals, a diffusion plate disposed above the light emitting lamps, the diffusion plate including a substrate, a light control part formed on the bottom surface of the substrate corresponding to the light emitting lamps, and lens parts mounted on the top surface of the substrate, and an optical film disposed above the diffusion plate.

Backlight unit and liquid crystal display device having the same

Provided are a backlight unit and a display device having the same. The display device according to an embodiment includes a display panel and a backlight unit for supplying light to the display panel. The backlight unit according to an embodiment includes a light guide plate, a light source disposed at a side of the light guide plate, a sensor sensing brightness or color temperature of natural light, an adaptive controller generating a voltage level signal to compensate for the brightness or color temperature of natural light, and a light source driver supplying a voltage corresponding to the voltage level signal to the light source. Thus, although the brightness or the color temperature of the natural light varies, uniform brightness or color temperature can be achieved by adjusting the brightness or the color temperature of the artificial light generated from the light source, thus displaying high-definition and high-quality images.
