The present disclosure generally discloses various mechanisms for supporting multipath communications, including mechanisms for supporting retransmissions for multipath communications. The mechanisms for supporting retransmission for multipath communications may be provided within the context of multipath transport connections, such as Multipath Transmission Control Protocol (MPTCP) connections. The mechanisms for supporting retransmission for multipath communications may support retransmission of lost or delayed packets of a multipath transport connection in a manner tending to avoid a timeout of the multipath transport connection.

Fast coupled retransmission for multipath communications

Methods and systems of adjusting bandwidth allocation by a network element in a communications network includes monitoring a data flow traversing a target port, determining a bandwidth allocation for the target port, determining a fair-share bandwidth allocation for the target port, and adjusting the bandwidth allocation for the target port based on the fair-share bandwidth allocation. The bandwidth allocation for the target port is a bandwidth that is currently allocated for the data flow. The fair-share bandwidth allocation is a proportional allocation of a total bandwidth of the network element.

Software defined networking based congestion control

A method for avoiding a network congestion at a network includes an aggregator and a plurality of workers, wherein the plurality of workers share the same bottleneck link to the aggregator. The method includes counting a number of connections between the aggregator and the worker, and adjusting a window size of each of the workers. The window size is based on the number of connections. The method further includes adding an ACK delay to an ACK, and sending the ACK with the window size to the worker. The ACK delay is based on the window size.
