An apparatus for common mode noise cancellation in an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor comprising a resistor-inductor-capacitor (RLC) network, a piezoelectric layer, a pixel array electrically coupled with the RLC network at a first end of the RLC network and either: (A) a common mode canceling capacitive element electrically coupled with the RLC network in parallel with the pixel array and configured to attenuate at least a portion of the common mode component from the acoustic signal before the acoustic signal is received by the pixel array or (B) a common mode canceling circuitry electrically coupled with the RLC network at a second end of the RLC network and configured to introduce a feedback signal to the pixel array through the RLC network, wherein the feedback signal is determined based on the received acoustic signal at each pixel within the pixel array.

Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor with passive and active common mode cancellation

An apparatus may include a display stack, an ultrasonic sensor stack and a high-impedance stack including one or more high-impedance layers. The ultrasonic sensor stack may include an ultrasonic transceiver layer and an ultrasonic transceiver circuitry (UTC) layer. Each of the high-impedance layers may have an acoustic impedance that is higher than an acoustic impedance of the UTC layer. The high-impedance stack and the ultrasonic sensor stack may form an acoustic resonator bounded by the UTC layer and the high-impedance stack. The acoustic resonator may be configured to enhance the ultrasonic waves transmitted by the ultrasonic sensor stack at a peak frequency of the ultrasonic sensor stack. The peak frequency may be a frequency used by the ultrasonic sensor stack for obtaining fingerprint images. An apparatus stack portion that includes the ultrasonic sensor stack may have a thickness corresponding to a multiple of a quarter wavelength at the peak frequency.

Devices including one or more high-impedance layers between a display stack and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor stack

An ultrasonic fingerprint sensor system of the present disclosure may be provided with a flexible substrate. The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor system may include a film stack disposed on the flexible substrate that provides acceptable acoustic coupling for fingerprint sensing. The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor system includes a high acoustic impedance layer in an acoustic path of ultrasonic waves through a display. The high acoustic impedance layer can be electrically conductive or electrically nonconductive. In some implementations, the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor system includes an ultrasonic transceiver or an ultrasonic transmitter separate from an ultrasonic receiver.

Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor with flexible substrate

A method may involve estimating a force applied by a target object on a surface, determining at least one ultrasonic fingerprint sensor parameter modification based, at least in part, on the force and updating at least one setting of an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor based, at least in part, on the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor parameter modification. The method may involve controlling the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor to transmit first and second ultrasonic waves towards the target object and receiving first and second ultrasonic receiver signals, including signals corresponding to reflections of the first and second ultrasonic waves from the target object, from the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. The method may involve performing an authentication process based, at least in part, on the first and second ultrasonic receiver signals.

Apparatus and method for ultrasonic fingerprint and force sensing

An ultrasonic fingerprint sensor system of the present disclosure may be provided with a thick electrically nonconductive acoustic layer and thin electrode layer coupled to a piezoelectric layer of an ultrasonic transmitter or transceiver. The thick electrically nonconductive acoustic layer may have a high density or high acoustic impedance value, and may be adjacent to the piezoelectric layer. The thin electrode layer may be divided into electrode segments. The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor system may use flexible or rigid substrates, and may use an ultrasonic transceiver or an ultrasonic transmitter separate from an ultrasonic receiver.

Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor with electrically nonconductive acoustic layer

An ultrasonic fingerprint sensor system of the present disclosure may be provided with an ultrasonic transmitter or ultrasonic transceiver having an electrode layer divided into a plurality of electrode segments. The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor system may detect an object over one or more electrode segments and provide a voltage burst to one or more selected electrode segments for localized generation of ultrasonic waves. The localized generation of ultrasonic waves may facilitate localized readout for imaging. In some implementations, the voltage burst may be provided in a single-ended drive scheme or differential drive scheme.

A co-located imaging and display pixel includes an image pixel having a photosensitive element and a display pixel co-located with the image pixel. An optical transformation engine is coupled between the image pixel and the display pixel. The optical transformation engine is configured to modulate an amplitude of display light emitted by the display pixel in response to receiving an imaging signal generated by the photosensitive element of the image pixel.

Display elements of a display array include at least one fixed layer and a movable layer. The movable layer is positioned with respect to the at least one fixed layer by placing a charge on the movable layer and applying a voltage to the at least one fixed layer. The at least one fixed layer may be two layers positioned on either side of the movable layer. The movable layer may be positioned in a desired position when driving an array of display elements by executing a reset stage, a charging stage, and a bias stage.

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for an arrangement of pixels and interconnects in a display. In one aspect, polarities of pixels may be in a dot inversion configuration, or checkerboard pattern, to reduce the visibility of flicker. Various interconnect alternatively couple between modules in different columns or rows to provide dot inversion.
