Disclosed are a backlight unit capable of guiding light generated by LEDs to a light guide panel in order to eliminate brightness fault, as well as a light crystal display including the same. The backlight unit includes a light guide panel, an LED arranged at a lateral side of the light guide panel, and a light guide bar with at least one light diffusion pattern to scatter light generated by the LED and admit the scattered light into the light guide panel, thereby uniformly guiding the light generated by the LED to the light guide panel.

A display device including a plurality of light sources spaced apart from one another, a refracting plate disposed over the plurality of light sources, and first and second refracting surfaces formed at both surfaces of the refracting plate to allow light emitted from the light sources to be scattered plural times by passing through the refracting plate, the first and second refracting surfaces having different shapes from each other. With the display device, light emitted from the light sources can be uniformly diffused, whereby high brightness uniformity can be accomplished even at positions relatively close to the light source, resulting in a reduction in a thickness of the display device.

The back light unit includes a prism light guide plate, light emitting diodes provided on one side of the prism light guide plate, and a bright-line dead section provided to the prism light guide plate so as to uniformly scatter light of each light condensing section generated by light emitted from the light emitting diodes, to prevent a spectrum of the light in a specific direction, and to prevent bright lines from being produced.
