A secondary communication system for an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is provided. The secondary communication system comprises at least one motor on the UAV and a motor controller in each motor that generates a signal from noise generated by the motor. A connector is configured to connect a towed sensor assembly to the UAV. A sensor acts as a receiver for the UAV, wherein the sensor receives a signal from a transmission source other than the UAV. The sensor is towed on the connector at a distance from the UAV sufficient to prevent or minimize interference of the received signal by the noise generated by the motor.

Towed sensor to aid low swap backup communications

A communication system and method include a group of multiple, discrete communication devices, each including an isotropic antenna element and a controller. A role of a first communication device is master device, and the role of the other communication devices is follower device. The controller of the master device determines relative locations of the follower devices to the master device, and assigns different phase delay values to the communication devices based on the relative locations. The controller of the master device communicates message information including the phase delay values, a message payload, and a transmit time to the follower devices for the isotropic antenna elements of the communication devices to collectively form an antenna array that transmits the message payload at the transmit time. The antenna array transmits the message payload with a phase taper defined by the phase delay values to form a beam towards a target.

System and method for coordinated beamforming among discrete communication devices

A system is provided for content delivery across heterogeneous networks. The system may store a database of unified identity codes (UICs) for respective categories of information, and in-network addresses of in-network subscriber nodes subscribed to the respective categories of information. At least one in-network subscriber node may be a gateway node of and between a heterogeneous network and another heterogeneous network that includes an out-of-network subscriber node. The system may receive a query including a UIC for a category of information to which one or more in-network subscriber nodes are subscribed, and in response thereto retrieve from the database using the UIC, one or more in-network addresses for the one or more in-network subscriber nodes. The system may also reply to the query with the one or more in-network addresses for use by the source node to transmit content to the one or more in-network subscriber nodes.

Content delivery across heterogeneous networks

A system is provided for unified data networking across a plurality of heterogeneous networks different ones of which include a source network node and a querying network node. The system may receive a data packet having a payload and a tag that includes a unified identity code (UIC) for a category of information. Content of the payload may be stored in a cache memory based at least in part on the UIC. In at least one instance, a query including the UIC may be received from the querying network node, and the system may retrieve the content from the cache memory based on the UIC. The system may then generate and transmit, to the querying network node, a reply data packet having a payload with the content and a tag that includes the UIC.

Unified data networking across heterogeneous networks

A system and methods for dynamic routing under extreme cognitive jamming environments are presented. Jammer signals emitted by a network protocol-aware cognitive jammer are scanned for at a router node in an ad-hoc wireless network, and jammer behaviors are detected based on signal characteristics of the jammer signals. A network dynamic pattern caused by the network protocol-aware cognitive jammer is classified based on the detected jammer behaviors observed over a period of time, and dynamic routing strategies of the first router node are adapted to achieve robust data delivery based on the network behavioral pattern. Data packets sent by the router node are routed to avoid nodes and routes that are affected by the jammer signals.

Dynamic routing under extreme cognitive jamming environments

A method, system, and computer program product for routing data in a network. The data is routed from a source in the network to a destination in the network along a path from the source to the destination through a plurality of nodes in the network using state information. The plurality of nodes forms the network and comprises static nodes and mobile nodes. In response to a loss of a route at a node in the mobile nodes, the node sends the data is sent to all other nodes in the plurality of nodes. Responses are received at the node from the destination through a number of paths from the destination to the node. Updated state information for the node is identified using the responses. The data is sent from the node to the destination along a selected route for the node using the updated state information.

Polymorphic routing for dynamic networks

The present invention is directed to a method of forming a mobile network using Phased Array Antennas. Mobile nodes search for nodes with which to form a network by either transmitting low level announcement signals on a wide spoiled beam directional antenna at progressively increasing power levels, or by receiving announcement signals using a high-gain, narrow directional beam. Low power announcements are compensated for by processing gain in the receive modem. Nodes randomly decide at each step of the scan whether to transmit or receive. Two control slots in an epoch are used for neighbor discovery. The first control slot is to announce or receive an announcement, and the second control slot is used to acknowledge the receipt of an announcement packet. The neighbor discovery process uses in-band communications. The directional communications permit simultaneous links in close proximity to other links without interference.

Method of forming directional wireless networks using in-band channels

An integrated, optoelectronic, variable thresholding neuron implemented monolithically in a GaAs integrated circuit and exhibiting high differential optical gain and low power consumption. Two alternative embodiments each comprise an LED monolithically integrated with a detector and two transistors. One of the transistors is responsive to a bias voltage applied to its gate for varying the threshold of the neuron. One embodiment is implemented as an LED monolithically integrated with a double heterojunction bipolar phototransistor (detector) and two metal semiconductor field-effect transistors (MESFET's) on a single GaAs substrate and another embodiment is implemented as an LED monolithically integrated with three MESFET's (one of which is an optical FET detector) on a single GaAs substrate. The first noted embodiment exhibits a differential optical gain of 6 and an optical switching energy of 10 pJ. The second embodiment has a differential optical gain of 80 and an optical switching energy or 38 pJ. Power consumption is 2.4 mW and 1.8 mW, respectively. Input 'light' power needed to turn on the LED is 2 .mu.W and 54 nW, respectively. In both embodiments the detector is in series with a biasing MESFET and saturates the other MESFET upon detecting light above a threshold level. The saturated MESFET turns on the LED. Voltage applied to the biasing MESFET gate, controls the threshold.

GaAS-based optoelectronic neurons

A surface emitting laser or SEL having a pair of vertical oscillator mirrors and a pair of integrated 45.degree. beam deflectors etched in a pair of parallel grooves in a broad-area multilayered wafer by tilted ion beam etching. Each SEL has high output power, low threshold current density, relatively high efficiency, and is compatible with large scale optoelectronic integrated circuit technology. One embodiment includes a lattice matched, unstrained AlGaAs/GaAs single quantum well (SQW) optical cavity in a graded index separate confinement heterostructure (GRINSCH). A second embodiment is a 945 nm lattice-mismatched or pseudomorphic In.sub.0.15 Ga.sub.0.85 As/AlGaAs SQW optical cavity SEL in a GRINSCH configuration in which the lattice mismatch is accommodated by elastic deformation of the lattice. Strain-induced reduction of valence band non-parabolicity and effective density states permits operation with a relatively low threshold current and improved spectral and dynamic properties. Quantum well, beam deflecting surface emitting lasers

High-gain MOCVD-grown (metal-organic chemical vapor deposition) AlGaAs/GaAs/AlGaAs n-p-n double heterojunction bipolar transistors (DHBTs) (14) and Darlington phototransistor pairs (14, 16) are provided for use in optical neural networks and other optoelectronic integrated circuit applications. The reduced base (22) doping level used herein results in effective blockage of Zn out-diffusion, enabling a current gain of 500, higher than most previously reported values for Zn-diffused-base DHBTs. Darlington phototransistor pairs of this material can achieve a current gain of over 6,000, which satisfies the gain requirement for optical neural network designs, which advantageously may employ novel neurons (10) comprising the Darlington phototransistor pair in series with a light source (12).
