An apparatus and method for protecting each of a plurality of cell stacks included in a battery pack from overcharge. The overcharge prevention apparatus prevents the overcharge of a plurality of cell stacks connected in series within a high current path. The overcharge prevention apparatus includes a voltage measuring unit configured to measure voltage of each cell stack, and generate a first monitoring signal indicating the measured voltage, a current regulating unit configured to selectively provide a bypass path to each cell stack, and a controller connected to the voltage measuring unit and the current regulating unit allowing communication. The controller is configured to control the current regulating unit based on the first monitoring signal from the voltage measuring unit.

Apparatus and method for preventing overcharge

The present invention relates to a system and a method of detecting swelling of a battery cell, which, when abnormal swelling is generated in a battery cell embedded in a battery pack, rapidly detect the abnormal swelling and control a supply of a power source to the battery pack to be blocked, thereby preventing a structural deformation of the battery cell and the battery pack and life shortening of the battery, and preventing an accident, such as ignition and explosion.

System and method for sensing battery cell swelling

The present invention relates to a system for detecting swelling of a battery, the system including: a plurality of detecting units which is provided at one or more battery modules of a battery pack, respectively, and detects gas branched from a battery cell of the battery module; a control unit which selects the largest detection value among the detection values of the respective detecting units, determines a level of the selected detection value according to a size of the selected detection value, and controls an operation of a peripheral apparatus based on the corresponding level; and a switch unit which is provided in a connection path of the battery pack and an external power source and is turned on and off according to a signal of the control unit.

Battery swelling sensing system and method

The present invention is to provide an apparatus and method for enhancing the safety of a secondary battery. The apparatus include a sensor part comprising a first sensor attached to the surface of a cell of the secondary battery to detect a movement of the cell, and a second sensor to detect a movement of a pack housing; a memory part for storing a critical value for a difference between a first measurement value obtained from the first sensor and a second measurement value obtained from the second sensor; and a controlling part for calculating a difference value between the first measurement value and the second measurement value and comparing the calculated difference value with the critical value stored in the memory part to stop the operation of the cell when the calculated difference value is greater than the critical value.

Secondary battery with movement detection sensor

A connecting structure for a secondary battery for electrically connecting a core pack where two or more unit cells are electrically connected and a protection circuit module made of the unit cells of the core pack and a PCB substrate. The connecting structure includes a metal plate having an electrode connecting unit connected to an electrode of each unit cell of the core pack and a circuit connecting unit connected to the protection circuit module; and a circuit terminal unit electrically connected to the circuit connecting unit by being located in a connection hole formed in the PCB substrate of the protection circuit module so that the upper and lower portions of the PCB substrate communicate with each other. The circuit connecting unit is coupled and electrically connected to the circuit terminal unit by means of a connection method which allows selective connection and separation.
