The purpose of a thermal induction machine is to put thermal resources and thermal uses (Q.sub.o, Q.sub.1, Q'.sub.1, Q.sub.2) into relation, so as to valorize the energy of the resources, the device operating in very similar fashion to reversibility with a binary working fluid used in diphasic form. It includes a first direct assembly of heat transfer elements inserted serially on the liquid and working fluid vapor flows. The first assembly consists of a first diphasic contact column (Kd) operating at an initial pressure value. It also includes a second assembly of heat transfer elements. The second assembly is reverse to the first and containing the same number of elements and notably a second diphasic contact column (Kg), the second column working at a second pressure value lower than the first value, adventitious flows (m.sub.o, m'.sub.o, m.sub.1, m'.sub.1) being established between the two assemblies on the terminals of the homologous elements. All the parts of the device have a temperature between any two values (columns, adventitious flows) exchanging heat between them. The adventitious flows and their direction are adjusted so that the two columns receive at all points, during exchanges, the quantities of heat corresponding to their thermal activity.

A process for the rectification of binary liquid mixtures is disclosed wherein one component of the mixture is more volatile than the other component. A rectification column is employed having rectification, intermediate and depletion stages, with a working fluid comprised of the components to be separated being employed to furnish energy for the rectification process.

A process is provided for the separation of a gas and a condensable vapor present in the gas. The vapor-containing gas is contacted in a condensation zone with a heat-exchange fluid to cool the gas whereupon the vapor condenses and is collected as condensate. The condensate is then contacted with the heat-exchanger fluid to cause it to vaporize.

Disclosed is a method and apparatus for the concentration of a solution of a 'dissolved' material in a 'solvent' without the input of any outside heat and by the furnishing of only work, the latter having a value close to the theoretical work of unmixing.

A process and apparatus for exchanging heat with condensable fluid are disclosed. In the process, a two-phase fluid is passed through the tubes of a heat exchanger under conditions of temperature and pressure such that the quality of the two-phase flow lies in the range of 0.03 to 0.97. The two-phase fluid is in a state of thermodynamic saturation at both the entry and exit of the heat exchanger. The change in quality of the two-phase mixture passing through the heat exchanger is distributed over the entire heat exchanger. The apparatus according to the invention includes a plurality of connected modular stages, each stage including a heat exchanger, a vapor-liquid separator, a compressor, an ejector and the suitable conduits to establish fluid communication between adjacent stages.

Method and apparatus for exchanging heat with a condensable fluid

A method and apparatus for exchanging heat between a plurality of circuits carrying fluids at different temperatures ranging from T.sub.o to T.sub.N includes at least one adjustable heat-carrying circuit for balancing the overall thermodynamic equilibrium of the heat exchanges. Each stage of a plurality of stages operates over one of the temperature intervals T.sub.o to T.sub.1, T.sub.1 to T.sub.2, . . . , T.sub.N-1 to T.sub.N, and includes at least one cell filled with a transfer fluid as both a liquid and a vapor. The vapor is transferred between cells of adjacent stages by compressors and by turbines. The liquid is transferred between cells of adjacent stages by pumps and by conduits having calibrated orifices. The adjustable heat-carrying circuit may either supply or remove heat and may extend through either a single cell or a plurality of adjacent cells.

Method and apparatus for exchanging heat between fluids

The present invention, which relates to a method and equipment for transferring heat between fluids, involves the combination of a multi-stage compressor with a series of heat-exchangers. The vapor of a condensable fluid is transmitted from one exchanger to the next by passing the same through a compressor stage, the condensate returning by direct passage with flash effect. A fluid to be cooled gives up its heat within the exchangers to the condensable fluid which is progressively vaporized. The equipment may be completed by a symmetrical part in which the condensable fluid gives up its heat of condensation to a third fluid. The invention is applicable to the use of low-level temperature heats, e.g., of geothermal origin.

The present invention relates to a process of, and equipment for, thorough mixing of gases and liquids. Equipment in conformity with the invention comprises one or several sequences arranged in same-sense or counter-sense flows, and each in turn comprising: an emulsifier followed by a tapered conduit and an expanding conduit; then, by a pressurized vessel equipped with an exhaust orifice for the liquid and an exhaust orifice for the gas. The gas and the liquid in such a vessel are in contact the moment they are at the maximum pressure reached in the sequence. The invention applies to chemical reactions, to dissolutions and wherever there is significance in achieving intimate contact between a gas and a liquid.

Process and apparatus for mixing gases and liquids

A process to be used systematically for establishing contact between a gas and a liquid such as might, in particular, react together. The process comprises a series of sequences each comprising effecting the intensive mixing, e.g., the emulsification, of the gas and liquid, expanding the emulsified mixture, separating the gas and liquid and recompressing the liquid. These sequences are in series. Over-all the liquid and the gas move in opposite directions, but within a given sequence the gas moves in the same direction as the liquid. The invention applies to water treatment by a regenerative gas such as ozone.
