A safety device for an X-ray unit comprises an X-ray tube protected by a casing and cooled by a fluid circulating between the tube and the casing. This device is aimed at preventing any excess pressure of the cooling fluid in the casing. It comprises a rigid, hermetically sealed and vacuum-tight cavity connected to the circuit of the fluid by a hydraulic connector with a high flow rate, designed to open mechanically and automatically under the effect of the fluid, by a pressure that exceeds a predetermined threshold.

In X-ray tubes with a rotating anode, the shielding of the stator is obtained by a first conductive layer that is deposited on the external wall of an insulating bell-shaped part and has an electrical discontinuity, and by a second conductive layer that is deposited on the internal wall of an insulating cup-shaped or bowl-shaped part, the bell and the bowl encasing the stator and thus creating an electrostatic screen against the high frequency oscillations that result from the 'crackling' of the tube. The disclosure concerns X-ray tubes that are placed in a sealed casing and filled with a cooling liquid. The disclosed safety device is constituted by a thermostat and/or a pressure-sentitive switch, series connected in the power supply circuit of the filament of the cathode. In the case of a cathod with two filaments, the thermostat and/or the pressure-sensitive switch is or are connected to the common conductor. Thus, should a temperature or pressure threshold be exceeded, the supply to the filament is cut off, thus cutting-off the X-radiation.

An X-ray emitting device of the X-ray unit type is disclosed, the arrangement of which simplifies maintenance problems. The emitting device has a metallic casing containing an X-ray tube and supply means. According to a feature of the invention, the X-ray tube and the supply means are contained in a first and second imperviously sealed chamber, filled with oil.

A device is disclosed for the cooling of an X-ray tube contained in a casing, using a fluid put into forced circulation in a cooling circuit comprising a heat exchanger. The device of the invention can be used to obtain efficient cooling while, at the same time, using a small volume of fluid and a heat exchanger of smaller size than in the prior art. To this end, the cooling circuit comprises means to, firstly, store a quantity of heat accumulated by the fluid when the latter reaches a pre-determined temperature during an examination period and, secondly, to restore this quantity of heat during an idle period which follows the examination period.

In an X-ray tube comprising a rotating anode mounted on magnetic bearings, the flow of anode current within the tube takes place without any contact by means of a stationarily fixed hollow anode in which is placed a cathode coupled rotationally to the rotating anode. The hollow anode is associated with heating means and the cathode is heated by thermal radiation within the hollow anode.

The invention relates to the polarization of a cathode of an X-ray tube by a high voltage cable comprising less conductors than the tube has polarization terminals. The missing voltages are processed by a device according to the invention, which comprises a voltage divider positioned between two of the voltages applied to the input terminals. It permits the use of standard long high voltage cables with limited stray capacitance without inducing dimensional control losses with respect to the tube foci. An x-ray tube providing a flat, fan-shaped uniform x-ray beam. The tube includes inside a vacuum glass envelope, a cathode or cathodes, a fixed or cylindrical rotating anode, and an anti-divergence diaphragm. The anti-divergence diaphragm has an opening, through which passes the beam. The walls of the opening have the shape of a sector of the fan-shaped beam in one plane (z-z'), and are flat in a perpendicular plane. A plurality of x-ray absorbing blades are positioned in the opening parallel to the fan-shaped side dividing the opening and the beam passing therethrough, thereby minimizing overall divergence of the beam. A plurality of cathodes may be used in the rotating anode tube, each separately focusable to provide beams of different intensity, and alternately operable.
