The invention mainly relates to a power transmission device () between an internal combustion engine () and vehicle wheels () consisting of a pair of electrical machines () and a mechanical assembly (), wherein said assembly () comprises at least two epicycloidal trains () each of which is provided with three mutually engageable elements. A system is provided for powering a motor vehicle using a heat engine and an electric machine. The vehicle includes a supercapacitor which stores unused energy from the heat engine. When the vehicle speed stabilizes, energy is stored in the supercapacitor. The heat engine is shut down and the energy from the supercapacitor is then used to power the electric machine which supplies power to the wheels.
