Process for confinement of waste containing at least one chemical species to be confined, by in-can vitrification in a hot metal can into which waste and a vitrification additive are added, the waste and the vitrification additive are melted to obtain a glass melt which is then cooled, characterised in that at least one oxidising agent is also added into the metal can and in that the concentration of oxidising agent(s) expressed as oxide(s) in the glass melt is between 0.1 and 20% by mass, preferably 4 and 20% by mass, even more preferably 5 and 15% by mass, and even more preferably 10 and 13% by mass of the glass melt mass.

Process for waste confinement by vitrification in metal cans

Angular sectors of a cylindrical wall of a crucible for vitrification of waste, built in steel and subject to high temperatures, are coated with a mixture of mainly glass and ceramic, the coating being subject to a heat treatment comprising a step between 650&#xb0; C. and 850&#xb0; C. so as to perform surface melting of the mixture filling the open porosity, improving dielectric strength and the cohesion of the coating, but without producing any excessive thermal expansion or oxidation of the substrate which would lead to fast flaking of the coating.

Method for coating a metal crucible element with a mixture of glass and ceramic

A temperature measurement tube is composite and comprises a rigid shaft (), which is cooled so as to shield it from corrosion and from the melt, and an end-fitting () housing a thermocouple () on the end of the tube and constructed from a noble metal, which is resistant to corrosion and to the high melting point. An alumina coating () is placed between the two metals in order to prevent any corrosion-inducing electrochemical exchange between them.

Vertical segments of a side wall of a crucible for an induction furnace are assembled at an adjustable, invariable position by screws screwed into tapped holes of a flange common to all segments. Junction edges of faces are rounded to achieve the same effect. Water cooling boxes of the lower furnace hearth are similarly constructed. The present invention provides a method of processing organic waste (D) in divided solid and/or liquid form, the method being implemented in a single reactor ( ) containing a bath of molten glass (V) surmounted by a gas phase (G), the method comprising incinerating said waste (D) in the presence of oxygen at the surface (S) of said bath of molten glass (V), and in vitrifying said incinerated waste (D) in said bath of molten glass (V). The present invention also provides apparatus for processing organic waste (D) in divided solid and/or liquid form by incineration and vitrification, the apparatus being suitable for implementing said method.
