System of electrodes for electrolytic display means with seven segments, comprising on one wall seven electrodes constituted by a first thin transparent conductive film in the form of a segment having two large sides, said electrodes being subdivided into six peripheral electrodes and one central electrode, each electrode being connected to a second thin conductive film deposited on said wall and forming a current lead, each current lead being connected to a connector, wherein each lead comprises a constricted zone followed by an enlarged zone leading to one of the large sides of one of the electrodes, the constriction relative to the current lead associated with the central electrode being positioned between two adjacent peripheral electrodes.

Electrode system for electrolytic display means with seven segments

Electrode and specifically a transparent electrode for an electrolytic cell and specifically an electrolytic display cell constituted by a transparent conducting layer having a configuration suitable for display purposes and deposited on an electrically insulating transparent support. The transparent conducting layer is coated with a thin transparent conducting film made from a material different from that of the conducting layer, so that under the operating conditions of the cell it is possible to limit the overvoltage on the electrode to such a value that there can be no secondary reactions liable to bring about a transformation of the materials forming said layer and said film. The layer is made from tin-doped indium oxide and the film from tin oxide doped with antimony or cadmium.

The method consists in forming a first insulating plate coated with an electrode, in depositing at the periphery of the plate a wall formed of a first material which is chemically inert with respect to the film and fusible at a first temperature, in passing through the wall a filler tube of a second material having a higher melting point than the wall, in forming a second transparent insulating plate coated with a semitransparent electrode, in sealing the tube in the wall and the first and second plates on the wall by heating the cell elements to a temperature at least equal to the first temperature and lower than the melting point of the second material, then in allowing the cell elements to cool.

An electrolytic display cell of the type comprising an electrolyte containing a metallic salt dissolved in a solvent, two parallel plates whereof one is covered by a semi-transparent electrode and whereof the other supports a counter-electrode, the electrode and counter-electrode being connected to the positive and negative poles of a d.c. voltage source via a switch permitting the connection of each pole to any one of the electrodes, the display being obtained by connecting the electrode to the negative pole of the source and the erasing by connecting the electrode to the positive pole, wherein the solvent is an organic solvent and the salt a silver halide.

Electrolytic display cell

A cell illuminated by a light source is constituted by an electrolyte containing metallic ions and interposed between a first wall coated with a first transparent conductive film which forms a display electrode and a second wall coated with a second conductive film which forms a counter-electrode. Deposition or dissolution of an absorbent metallic thin film less than 10 nm in thickness is carried out on the display electrode by electrochemical reaction.
