A probe primarily applicable to medical echography for achieving a variable compromise between depth of field and lateral resolution incorporates a main piezoelectric transducer, a plano-convex lens having an elastic diaphragm, an auxiliary transducer for measuring the deflection of the lens and means for controlling the deflection in dependence on a reference value by modifying the pressure exerted on the diaphragm by the fluid contained within the lens.

Medical echo sounding apparatus with a wide sector scanning angle

An echo sounding apparatus which includes an ultrasonic transmitter-receiver probe 3 generating a horizontal ultrasonic beam and a mirror 4 inclined at 45.degree. with respect to the said beam and driven by a torque motor 5 for oscillatory conical motion about an axis which coincides with the said beam. A housing 1 containing a coupling liquid transmits the investigation ultrasonic beam reflected on the mirror through a transparent membrane 2. An auxiliary ultrasonic reflector, which follows the angular displacement of the mirror, cooperates with an auxiliary transducer, operated in synchronization with the said probe, for providing a signal indicative of the angular position of the mirror. The torque motor is controlled from the said signal so that the mirror is oscillated in accordance with a pre-determined scanning law and a circuit controls the displacement of the beam of a cathode ray tube so as to provide a type B display where the scanning of the screen of this tube continuously corresponds to the displacement of the ultrasonic beam.

An ultra-sonic echography apparatus comprises a probe with multiple elements switched at the rate of transmission pulses and moved along a contour of the test body. Its position is registered by a pantograph cooperating with three sine-cosine potentiometers, the sine potentials of which control the horizontal deflection plates of a cathode-ray tube, while the cosine potentials control the vertical deflection plates and a fourth potentiometer adds potentials displaced by 90.degree. with respect to those delivered by the said three potentiometers, so as to control the beam position of the cathode ray tube for obtaining, on the screen thereof, a beam trace which is homothetic with respect to the ultrasonic beam in the test body.

A real-time display device or fast imager for ultrasonic echography comprises a first electroacoustic transducer array 2 for periodically and simultaneously emitting a multiplicity of parallel ultrasonic wave trains toward a body O to be examined and receives from it reflected ultrasonic wave trains which it converts into electrical echo signals. These signals are transmitted through respective amplifiers 4 to a second electroacoustic transducer array 3 or 30 which retransmits them in the form of regenerated ultrasonic waves to an acousto-optical converter including a transparent tank 5 which contains a piezo-optical liquid 6, serving as an acousto-optical interaction medium, wherein the regenerated waves are focused by one or two focalizing elements, i.e. acoustic lenses and/or mirrors or simply by an arcuate shape of the second transducer array 30. The ultrasonic wavefronts form streaks or schlieren at image points spatially correlated with reflection-generating points of the test object O, these schlieren coming into existence in an image space of the tank at different instants depending upon the spacing of the respective object points from the first transducer array 2. The image space is transluminated by an oscillating light beam of narrow elongate cross-section whose velocity matches the apparent schlieren speed in the direction of wave propagation; the diffracted part of the beam, clearing a spatial filter or mask, is intercepted by a visualizer such as a vidicon tube.

Echographic device for the real-time display of internal discontinuities

Device for measuring the volume of sections of a tubular blank by ultrasonic echography. An ultrasonic pulse emitter -receiver is associated with an auxiliary reflector. The transducer and the auxiliary reflector are mounted on a rotary head. The blank moves forward continuously and the ultrasonic beam describes a helix on its surface. On basis of the measurement of the distances from the transducer to the outer and inner surfaces of the tube, a computer calculates the elementary areas and volumes and compares the sum of the elementary volumes with a reference value. The sections of constant weight are marked by a component controlled by the computer.

In a system of analysis of an object or a body by means of 'transgraphy' i.e. of radiography by transmission, wherein a receiver transducer and a transmitter transducer are linearly and angularly synchronously displaced, the signal supplied by the receiver transducer modulates one characteristic magnitude--intensity or velocity--of the spot of an electronic tube including a charge storage and memory element, while one line scanned by said spot corresponds to a fixed position of the assembly of transmitter and receiver transducers.

An ultrasonic probing system including: a recurrent electric impulse sender, several transducer devices integral with a common support and connected to said sender; receptor devices connected with said sender, wherein the transducer devices are arranged to include focal areas which together cover an extended area essentially perpendicular to the common support and the connection between the transducer and receptor devices includes means for introducing a variable transfer characteristic; and programming devices controlling said introducing means in order to cause said characteristic to vary as a function of the elapsed time after transmission of each electrical impulse whereby the system operates with an effective focal spot coinciding at each probing instant with the tested area.

A device for examination by ultrasonic pulses to produce better image resolution, of the type including the formation of a B-type intermediate image of the object examined on the target of a recording tube, the reading of this image by television type scanning, and its visualization on a television screen, in which there is a modulation of the television scanning, so that the beam exploring the intermediate image describes hyperbolic arcs identical with those which correspond, in the intermediate image, to each point of the object examined.
