A bearing assembly is for a mechanism including a housing and a rotatable shaft disposed within the housing. The bearing assembly includes a sleeve disposable within the housing and having an inner circumferential surface defining a bore and a radial surface extending radially inwardly from the inner surface. A bearing is disposed within the bore and includes inner and outer races and rolling elements disposed between the races, the inner race being coupleable with the shaft such that the shaft and the inner race rotate as a single unit. Further, a biasing member biases the outer race generally against the sleeve radial surface or a housing radial surface to prevent axial displacement of the outer race during shaft rotation. Preferably, a retainer couples the biasing member with the outer race to retain the bearing and the biasing member within the bore when the assembly is separate from the housing.

Bearing assembly for a power steering mechanism

This ball bearing () forms an axial force transmission member and comprises an inner ring () and an outer ring (), and a single series of balls () placed in a rolling chamber between the inner ring () and the outer ring (). A first ring (), amongst the inner ring () and the outer ring (), forms a travel track () in a section of a sphere centered on a geometric point (C) belonging to an axis of symmetry (X) of this first ring (). The first ring () supports a seal () insulating the rolling chamber relative to the outside. The second ring (), amongst the inner ring () and the outer ring (), is provided with a sealing zone () designed to interact with the seal and in the shape of a section of a sphere centered on a second geometric point (C) belonging to an axis of symmetry (X) of the second ring. The radii (R, R) of the sections of a sphere are different. In the installed configuration of the bearing, the first geometric point (C) and second geometric point (C) are superimposed and offset axially, along the axis of symmetry (X) of the second ring (), relative to the series of balls.

The cylindrical drum (5, 41, 45) is locked and held in position with respect to the nozzle (1) by means of an intermediate coupling ring (23) secured by screws (31) to the nozzle (1) and by the locking shoes (6) fixed to hydraulic rams (47).
