Composition of carboxyl-containing poly(meth)acrylate,

Curable compositions, which comprise the following components:

Carboxyl-containing polymer(s) with (2-oxo-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)methyl

Free-flowing powdery compositions comprising: (A) liquid or semi-solid epoxy resins; and (B) solid colloidal condensation polymers of urea or melamine and formaldehyde having a pore volume greater than 1 cm .sup.3 /g and a specific surface area greater than 5 m.sup.2 /g. The novel compositions can be typically used as powder coating compositions, adhesives, casting resins and molding compounds.

Epoxy resin compositions

There is disclosed a solid composition of polyglycidyl compounds having a molecular weight of less than 1500, which composition consists of one or more than one solid polyglycidyl compound and altogether not less than 5% by weight of one or of a mixture of more than one polyglycidyl compound, which compound or mixture is normally in liquid form, said amount being based on the total amount of all polyglycidyl compounds in the composition, which composition contains the said solid polyglycidyl compounds or at least part of the said solid polyglycidyl compounds in form of one or a mixture of more than one solid mixed phase, which solid mixed phase or mixture of more than one solid mixed phase essentially comprises the total amount of the polyglycidyl compounds which are normally in liquid form as additional component or components. Preferably the compositions are solid solutions of a solid polyglycidyl compound, typically diglycidyl terephthalate, and a further polyglycidyl compound which is normally in liquid form, for example triglycidyl trimellitate or triglycidyl trimesate. The compositions are suitable hardeners for powder coating compositions based on carboxyl-terminated polyesters.

Solid compositions of polyglycidyl compounds having a molecular weight

The invention relates to the use of polyglycidyl compounds as hardeners in powder coating compositions based on polyester resins which react with epoxy groups, which compounds are polyglycidyl esters of formula (I) or (II) ##STR1## wherein in formula (I) R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are each independently of one another hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or radicals of formula (III) ##STR2## wherein A is a polymethylene group of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, and R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are each independently of each other hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or radicals of formula (III) or, when taken together, are an unsubstituted or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl-substituted methylene or polymethylene group of 2 to 7 carbon atoms, but with the proviso that at least two of the substituents R.sub.1 to R.sub.6 are radicals of formula (III), and, in formula (II)

Hardeners for powder coating compositions based on polyester resins

Polyglycidyl ethers which are obtainable by reacting acetophenone with 0.7 to 1.4 mol of formaldehyde per mol of acetophenone, in the presence of an alkaline catalyst and in the temperature range from 50.degree. to 100.degree. C., to a carbonylated acetophenone/formaldehyde resin, hydrogenating said carbonylated resin to a modified hydroxylated acetophenone/formaldehyde resin, subsequently converting said resin with epichlorohydrin, in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst, into the corresponding polychlorohydrin ether, and dehydrochlorinating said ether with a base, are suitable for use as epoxy resins, for example for the preparation of powder coating compositions having good resistance to chemicals and good adhesion.

The invention relates to polycycloacetals of formula I ##STR1## wherein n is an integer from 1 to 500, x and y are each independently of the other 0 or 1, R.sup.1 is a carbon atom or a tetravalent hydrocarbon radical having a molecular weight not greater than 1000 and which can additionally contain ether oxygen atoms or oxygen atoms in hydroxyl, carbonyl or epoxy groups, and R.sup.2 is a tetravalent hydrocarbon radical derived from a dialdehyde or a diketone. The polycycloacetals can be used together with conventional hardeners and/or curing catalysts for epoxy resins for the fabrication of cross-linked (cured) products having good properties, especially having excellent fastness to solvents, light and weathering.
