A method for enhancing pulp washing efficiency is disclosed. An anionic sulfonate surfactant is added within the washing or pulping operation to enhance the removal of lignin and spent cooking chemicals from pulp.

Anionic sulfonate surfactants in the washing and pulping operation

Disclosed are concentrated high flash point surfactant compositions comprising an alcohol ethosulfate free of low flash solvents, a primary alcohol ethoxylate and glacial acetic acid in a weight ratio of 5 to 80% alcohol ethosulfate, 80 to 20% alcohol ethoxylate and 2 to 20% acetic acid. Preferably, a fourth component consisting of a nonionic surfactant such as caster oil ethoxylate is employed in the composition.

Method for improving pulp washing efficiency

The present invention is directed to the use of phosphate esters or taurines to inhibit dryer section deposition in a pulp making or paper machine when the pulp furnish used contains tacky materials. The deposition control agent may be added to the pulp furnish or sprayed on the paper web. The phosphate ester may be a mono-, di- or triester.

The process involves adding to the coated broke during repulping a composition having a first compound of a tetrafunctional alkoxylated diamine having the structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are ethylene oxide or propylene oxide and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are not the same, and a second compound selected from the group consisting of a phosphate, phosphonate and phosphonic acid.
