A dynamic groove bearing (9,89,111) with an inner bearing part (15) and an outer bearing part (17) which is rotatable about the inner bearing part (15). The bearing parts (15,17) are provided with cooperating bearing surfaces (23,35) between which a bearing gap (45) filled with liquid lubricant (75,105) is present. The bearing surface (35) of at least one of the bearing parts (17) is provided with a pattern of grooves (51,53). The bearing surface (35) of the outer bearing part (17) is provided with an annular recess (67, 91,113) which bounds the bearing gap (45). The annular recess (67, 91, 113) is asymmetrical, having at a side thereof facing the bearing gap (45) a first lateral surface (69) adjoining the bearing surface (35) of the outer bearing part (17) and enclosing an obtuse angle .beta..sub.1 with the bearing surface (35) of the outer bearing part (17). At a side remote from the bearing gap (45) the annular recess has a second lateral surface (71) which adjoins the bearing surface (35) of the outer bearing part (17) and encloses an obtuse angle .beta..sub.2 with respect thereto, the obtuse angle .beta..sub.1 being smaller than the obtuse angle .beta..sub.2. The annular recess (67, 91, 113) prevents leakage of the liquid lubricant (75, 105) from the bearing gap (45) at comparatively high speeds of the dynamic groove bearing (9, 89, 111). Such a bearing can be used in an electric motor (1, 87, 109) of a data storage unit (121) in which an information disc (123) such as, for example, a hard disk of a computer, is rotatable relative to a scanning unit (129) with a magnetic head (131) by means of the electric motor.

A shaving apparatus (1, 105) with at least one adjustable cutting unit (11, 121) which comprises an external cutting member (13, 123) with at least one hair trap opening (17) and an internal cutting member (19, 125) which is rotatable inside the external cutting member (13, 123) by means of an electric motor (23, 127). The cutting unit (11, 121) is adjustable by means of an electrical actuator (91, 179) which is controllable by an electrical control unit (103, 191). In a first embodiment of the shaving apparatus (1), the external cutting member (13, 123) can be positioned relative to a holder (17) during a shaving operation by means of the actuator (91). In a second embodiment of the shaving apparatus (105), the external cutting member (123) is displaceable relative to the holder (111) under the influence of a skin contact force against a pretensioning force which has a value which is adjustable by means of the actuator (179). In both embodiments, the motor (23, 127) has a speed which is controlled by the control unit (103, 191). The control unit (103, 191) adjusts the cutting unit (11, 121) and the motor speed (23, 127) as a function of a measured skin contact force, a measured cutting frequency, a time which has elapsed during a shaving operation, and a balance between shaving performance and shaving comfort desired by the user. In a special embodiment, the control unit (103, 191) controls the cutting unit (11, 121) and the motor speed in accordance with an algorithm based on fuzzy logic. The shaving apparatus (1, 105) provides a user of the shaving apparatus (1, 105) with an optimum balance between the achieved shaving performance, i.e. skin smoothness and shaving speed, and the experienced shaving comfort, i.e. skin irritation level, during a shaving operation.

Shaving apparatus with electrically adjustable cutting unit

A shaving apparatus (1, 101, 201) is provided which includes at least one cutting unit (11) which is provided with an external cutting member (13) with at least one hair trap opening (17) and with an internal cutting member (19) which is rotatable in the external cutting member (13) by means of an electric motor (23). The speed of the motor (23) can be controlled during operation by a feedforward control unit (43, 103, 203) as a function of at least one physical quantity which can be measured during operation by means of a transducer (59, 69, 111). A first embodiment of the shaving apparatus (1) comprises a timer (59) which measures a time which has elapsed during a shaving operation, and a detector (69) with a microphone (71) which measures a cutting frequency of the cutting unit (11), the speed of the motor (23) being controllable by the control unit (43) as a function of the time which has elapsed during the shaving operation and of the cutting frequency. A second embodiment of the shaving apparatus (101) comprises a force detector (111) which measures a skin contact force exerted on the cutting unit (11), and again a detector (69) with a microphone (71) measuring a cutting frequency of the cutting unit (11), so that the speed of the motor (23) can be controlled by the control unit (103) as a function of the skin contact force and the cutting frequency. In a special embodiment, the control unit (43, 103, 203) controls the speed of the motor (23) in accordance with an algorithm based on fuzzy logic. The shaving apparatus (1, 101, 201) provides a user of the shaving apparatus (1, 101, 201) with an optimum balance between shaving performance, shaving comfort and power consumption of the motor (23) during a shaving operation.

Shaving apparatus with controllable motor speed

A shaving apparatus is provided having at least one shaving unit comprising an external shaving member (3) and an internal shaving member (4) which is rotatably drivable relative to the external shaving member, the external shaving member having an annular wall portion (5) with lamellae (7) which extend in substantially radial directions and between which hair-entry apertures are formed, the radial ends (13) of the lamellae having a rounding radius (R) of 0.3-0.7 mm viewed in a radial direction, and the internal shaving member (4) comprising cutters (9) having cutting edges (10) which describe a path (11) adjoining the inner side (12) of the annular wall portion (5) of the external shaving member. In order to improve the shaving performance the shaving apparatus is characterized in that, viewed in radial cross-section, at least a part (14) of the outer side of the annular wall portion (5), which part is situated opposite the annular path (11) of the cutting edges (10), has an outwardly directed arcuate shape, the perpendicular distance (15) between the axially outermost point (16) of this arcuate part (14) and a line through those points (18, 19) of the outer side of the annular wall portion, which are situated directly opposite the inner diameter (20) and the outer diameter (21), respectively, of the annular path (11), being 12-100 .mu.m

Shaving apparatus having contoured heads

A shaving apparatus has at least one shaving unit (2) which comprises an external shaving member (3) and an internal shaving member (4) which is rotatable relative to the external shaving member, the external shaving member having an annular wall portion (5) with lamellae (7) which extend in substantially radial directions and between which hair-entry apertures (8) are formed, the internal shaving member comprising cutters (10) which describe a path adjoining the inner side (12) of the annular wall portion (5) of the external shaving member (4). In order to obtain a closer shave without an increased risk of injury to the skin the shaving apparatus is characterized in that the cutters (10) together form one undulating continuous ring-shaped cutter body covering all the hair-entry apertures (8).
