A method of operating a radio unit, RU, in a network node of a wireless communication system, the network node having a lower-layer split architecture and including a lower-layer split central unit, LLS-CU, includes receiving, from the LLS-CU, an indication that the RU should generate a set of beamforming weights defining an antenna beam from the RU to a user equipment (UE), generating the set of beamforming weights, and communicating with the UE using the set of beamforming weights.

A method for transmitting user data from a lower-layer split central unit (LLS-CU) to a radio unit (RU) in a network node of a wireless communication system for transmission by the RU over a wireless interface includes mapping reference symbols to be transmitted by the RU to resource elements to provide mapped data. The mapped data including the references symbols is compressed using a bitmap representation of the mapped data to obtain compressed data. A method and transition device for enabling communication of data between a remote radio unit and a central baseband unit in a wireless network. When detecting a first interface configuration used by the remote radio unit and a second interface configuration used by the baseband unit, the transition device configures interface functions, based on the first and second interface configurations. The interface functions are selected from a set of predefined interface functions associated with different interface configurations. The transition device then establishes a data flow between the remote radio unit and the central baseband unit over the transition device, and performs conversion between the first interface configuration and the second interface configuration for data communicated in the data flow, using the selected interface functions.

Operating a lower layer split central unit

A radio unit, RU, in a network node of a wireless communication system is operable to receive, at the radio unit and from a lower-layer split central unit, LLS-CU, a plurality of downlink signals that include reference symbols, RS, and user data downlink, UD-DL, messages to be transmitted to a user equipment, UE, over a wireless interface. The RU can accumulate received data corresponding to the plurality of downlink signals into a concentrated data format. The RU can further receive a data-associated control information, DACI, message including a section description associated with the plurality of downlink signals. The DACI message can include an indication of how to perform the accumulating data operation.

Methods for separating reference symbols and user data in a lower layer split

A method of operating a radio unit, RU, in a network node of a wireless communication system, the network node having a lower-layer split architecture and including a lower-layer split central unit, LLS-CU, includes receiving an uplink signal from a user equipment, UE, in response to the uplink signal, determining at the RU a set of beamforming weights defining an antenna beam from the RU to the UE, transmitting the uplink signal to the LLS-CU, and forming the antenna beam to the UE using the set of beamforming weights.

There is provided a method for controlling interference in a received signal when scheduling in a network node for wireless communication with a set of user equipment's, UEs, said set comprising a first UE and at least a second UE, wherein the interference is passive-intermodulation interference, PIM. The method comprises receiving a scheduling request from at least the first UE transmitting on a first frequency and scheduling at least the first UE based on an interference scenario report and available PIM cancellation resources to enable efficient PIM control. The base station further comprises a second component part, which comprises the other of the central unit and the radio unit. A transport path group for uplink transmission over a fronthaul interface. The transport path group may include (i) an address of a first source port of a radio unit (RU), (ii) an address of a first destination port of a distributed unit (DU), and (iii) an address of a second source port of the RU, an address of a second destination port of the DU, and/or a flow identifier (e.g., a virtualized local area network (VLAN)). A request for user data conveyed by the DU and received by the RU may identify the transport path group. The RU may use the fronthaul interface to convey to the DU first and second portions of the requested user data over first and second different paths from the RU to the DU. The RU may employ load balancing parameters to convey the first and second portions of the requested user data.

Management of uplink transmission in O-RAN, transport path group

A method for configuring transmission order of uplink data, the method performed by a radio equipment ('RE') of an access node. The RE has a RE controller ('REC')-RE interface that communicatively couples the RE with a REC of the access node. The method includes receiving instructions from the REC that indicate a scheduling prioritization for transmission by the RE of uplink data between the RE and the REC over the REC-RE interface. The uplink data can be received by the RE on the radio interface. The method can further include transmitting the uplink data on the REC-RE interface according to the instructions, resulting in the scheduling prioritization of the uplink data.
