A novel process having improved flexibility in olefins production is provided which integrates a deep catalytic cracking process with a steam cracking process, and optionally, also including steps of disproportionation and C.sub.4 hydrocarbon processing including methyl tertiary butyl ether synthesis.

Flexible light olefins production

There is provided a novel integrated process for producing methyl tertiary butyl ether from a C.sub.4 containing hydrocarbon feedstock comprising passing the feedstock through zones of butadiene hydrogenation, MTBE synthesis, paraffin/olefin separation and skeletal isomerization.

Integrated MTBE process

A process and apparatus for effecting liquid-liquid contact in a plurality of stages between heavy and light liquid streams is provided wherein said streams are capable of undergoing mass transfer with one another or constituents in either stream are capable of reaction therebetween and where either of said streams can be intercirculated or intracirculated through each stage.

Apparatus and process for liquid-liquid contact

A process for the production of alcohol from a fermented feed wherein insoluble organic matter is separated prior to entry into a first distillation column. The insoluble organic matter is dried under pressure to produce dried distillers grain and wherein excess vapor is removed from the drying zone to provide heat to the distillation system. The present process also includes removing excess water vapor from the evaporation zone, obtained from supplemental heating supplied by the overhead from said first distillation column, compressing said water vapor, and recycling it to the distillation columns and the evaporation zone.

Alcohol recovery process

Unsaturated C.sub.4 hydrocarbons are converted into normal butane by introducing an unsaturated C.sub.4 hydrocarbon stream into a hydrogenation zone to convert it into a stream of normal butane and isobutane. Normal butane is recovered from a separation zone while isobutane is directed to an isomerization zone wherein a portion of the isobutane is converted into normal butane. The stream from the isomerization zone is returned to the separation zone to recover the normal butane produced in the isomerization reaction. The normal butane produced by the process is subsequently utilized in a cracking zone to produce ethylene.
