A zoom lens includes an optical path extending between object and image ends, two or more zoom lens groups, an intermediate real image plane in optical path, and all zoom lens groups on an image side or an object side of intermediate real image plane. Zoom lens may include at least one optical path fold in optical path. Field optics in the vicinity of and associated with intermediate real image plane may be in optical path. Zoom lens may include a fixed rear optical group nearest to image end in optical path and a fixed aperture stop in fixed rear optical group wherein aperture stop remains stationary during zooming. Zoom lens may have a magnification with an absolute value greater than 0.4 between intermediate and final real image planes located at image end. Zoom lens may be entirely within a housing of a digital camera or cellphone during its operation.

Zoom lens optical system

A light is provided having a base unit, an arm extending from the base unit, and a lamp head coupled to the arm. The lamp head includes an LED configured to provide light based on an input drive current, an optical mixing element configured to collect the light produced by the LED and a zoom lens configured to adjust an output size of a spot generated by the light collected in the mixing element. A controller receives DC power from the base unit through the arm. The controller is configured to set the input drive current for the LED to control an output light density of the spot in response to an operator selected input and configured to adjust the output light density of the spot in response to a change in the size of the spot.

LED light for examinations and procedures

A light source module is disclosed. The light source module includes an emitter having a light emitting surface, a solid integrating optic aligned to accept light emitted from the emitter at an entrance face and deliver light to an exit face, and a lens aligned to receive light from the exit face. The lens has a substantially hemispherical portion having a radius of curvature and the exit face of the solid integrating optic has an exit face diagonal. The ratio of the radius of curvature to the exit face diagonal is greater than 0.7. The solid integrating optic and the lens each have an index of refraction, and the ratio of the lens index of refraction to the solid integrating optic index of refraction is greater than unity.

Light source module

A backlight may include a light guide and a light input. The light guide may have a light reflection surface and a light emission surface. The light input may include a diverging wedge having a narrow end and opposing side surfaces extending to the narrow end. A light source may be disposed adjacent to one of the opposing side surfaces and may emit light into the light input portion. A multilayer polymeric mirror film may be disposed adjacent to the opposing side surfaces but not in intimate contact therewith and may reflect more than 95% of visible light incident on the multilayer polymeric mirror film.

Backlight wedge with side mounted light source

A projection lens for use with LCD panels is provided. The lens has a first lens unit which includes a strong negative lens element having an aspherical surface which provides distortion correction, and a second lens unit which includes a first lens subunit separated by an airspace from a second lens subunit, wherein the first lens subunit has a strong positive power and the second lens subunit has a weaker power. The second lens subunit can include a negative lens element, followed by a positive lens element, followed by a plastic lens element having an aspherical surface. The projection lens has a field of view of at least 35&#xb0; so that the overall projection lens system has a compact size.

Wide field of view projection lenses for compact projection lens systems employing pixelized panels

Projection lenses for use with pixelized panels (PP) are provided. The projection lenses have a first unit (U) separated from a positive second unit (U). The lenses are telecentric on the short conjugate side, have a large field of view in the direction of the long conjugate, have low aberration levels, and include a space between two of the lens elements making up the lens which is sufficient to accept a reflective surface (RS) for folding the lens' optical axis. The second or rear lens unit (U) includes at least a first color-correcting lens subunit (SU/CC) which has a positive-followed-by-negative form and contributes to the correction of the chromatic aberrations of the projection lens, including the correction of lateral color.

Projection lenses having color-correcting rear lens units

Telecentric lens systems for use with pixelized panels, such as LCD or DMD panels, are provided. The systems have a long aperture stop to object distance (ASOD) and a high level of aberration correction, including a high level of lateral color correction. Preferably, the systems also have a low f-number and are wide angle. The systems include a negative first unit which produces the long ASOD, a weak second unit which includes two meniscus elements which surround the system's aperture stop, and a positive third unit which images the aperture stop to form the system's telecentric pupil.

Telecentric lens systems for forming an image of an object composed of pixels

Projection lenses for use with pixelized panels (PP) are provided. The projection lenses have a first unit (U) separated from a positive second unit (U) by a distance sufficient to accept a reflective surface (RS) for folding the lens' optical axis. The lenses are telecentric on the short conjugate side, have a large field of view in the direction of the long conjugate, and have low aberration levels. By using negative lens elements (Land L) composed of plastic materials having large positive Q-values at the long conjugate side of the first lens unit (U), the lenses can achieve low levels of lateral color, including low levels of secondary lateral color, with reduced cost compared to lenses which employ anomalous dispersion glasses in the first lens unit.

Foldable projection lenses

Projection lens systems for use with cathode ray tube (CRT) projection televisions are provided which have positive first lens units (U) and negative second lens units (U) where the negative second lens units are customized in terms of at least one optical property for at least two of the colors of light produced by the CRTs with which the units are used. The at least one optical property is not spectral transmission, although the second lens units can also be customized for spectral transmission. As illustrated in FIGS.B&#x2013;F and FIGS.B&#x2013;F, such customization of a non-transmissive property provides an effective and cost effective approach for improving the color performance of CRT projection lens systems. Constructions for the positive first lens unit which improve image contrast and reduce manufacturing costs are also provided.

Lens systems for projection televisions

A compact high performance objective zoom lens system is disclosed that provides optimum optical performance over the entire zoom focal length range at focus distances from close to infinity. The system comprises, from object space to image space, one focusing objective lens group (comprising a focus lens group and a stationary lens group) and three zoom lens groups aligned on the optical axis. The focus lens group and the zoom lens groups are axially movable along the optical axis for focusing and zooming. In one embodiment, the system has a focal length zoom region from about 19 mm to 90 mm, an aperture of F/2.7 and substantially the same optical performance as high quality fixed objective lenses of the same range. The performance characteristics of this system makes it suitable for use with both film and electronic detector cameras.

Compact high performance zoom lens system

Projection lenses for use with pixelized panels (PP) are provided. The projection lenses have first and second lens units (U,U), with the first lens unit having a negative power and the second lens unit having a positive power. The first lens unit has a first lens element (L) having a generally meniscus shape and a second lens element (L) having a biconcave shape when its surface configurations are described by best fit spherical surfaces. The second lens element (L) has an Abbe number (v) which is (a) less than or equal to 55 and (b) less than the Abbe number (V) of the first lens element (L). The second lens element (L) also has an optical power (&#x3c6;) at 0.7 of the clear aperture of its short conjugate surface which is negative and has a magnitude which is greater than the second lens element's on-axis optical power (&#x3c6;). This combination of lens shapes, Abbe numbers, and optical powers provides higher order lateral color correction without the need for abnormal partial dispersion glasses.

Color-corrected projection lenses for use with pixelized panels

An optical system for use in a head-mounted display is provided which includes a microdisplay () and a magnifier () for producing a magnified image of the microdisplay for viewing by a human eye. The magnifier () includes a diffractive surface and has in order: a first element () having a first surface (S) which is convex in the direction of the long conjugate, a block () of optical material, and a second element () having a second surface (S) which is convex in the direction of the short conjugate. The first surface (S) is preferably the diffractive surface. The magnifier provides a long eye relief, a large exit pupil, and a large field of view with a minimum of components.

Diffractive lens optical design

Projection lens systems for use with cathode ray tube (CRT) projection televisions are provided which have positive first lens units (U ) and negative second lens units (U ) where the negative second lens units are customized in terms of at least one optical property for at least two of the colors of light produced by the CRTs with which the units are used. The at least one optical property is not spectral transmission, although the second lens units can also be customized for spectral transmission. As illustrated in FIGS. B- F and FIGS. B- F, such customization of a non-transmissive property provides an effective and cost effective approach for improving the color performance of CRT projection lens systems. Constructions for the positive first lens unit which improve image contrast and reduce manufacturing costs are also provided.

The present invention provides an enhanced viewing eyepiece for a micro-display. In one embodiment, the invention is an optical imaging system that includes a prism having a first face directed toward a display to receive light from the display and direct it through a second face, a converging optical element between the second face of the prism and the display, and a reflective converging optical element adjacent the second face of the prism to receive the display light through the second face of the prism and reflect it back into the second face of the prism, the invention further includes a diverging optical element aligned with the reflective converging optical element to receive the display light reflected back into the first prism and direct it to an exit pupil.
