A tool assembly for extracting a liner from a prosthesis comprising an impactor and a faceplate. The impactor can be configured to receive and transmit a force. The faceplate can be configured to deliver the force from the impactor to the prosthesis to separate the liner from a shell of the prosthesis.

Acetabular liner extraction

An augment for supporting an acetabular shell at an acetabulum of a hip bone. In some examples, the augment can include a body having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. The body can extend from a first end portion that is adapted to be fixed to an acetabular shell, to a second end portion. The body can include a first hole and a second hole, each of the first and second holes extending through the body from the first surface to the second surface. The body can be formed of a porous material that promotes boney ingrowth and can further include a trim marker located in between the first hole and the second hole.

Customizable augments and methods for acetabular implants

Systems and methods and augments for supporting an acetabular shell at a hip bone. An example system of modular augments can include first and second augments, each having a body extending from a respective first end portion to a respective second end portion. The first augment second end portion can include a first coupling element and the second augment first end portion can include a second coupling element. Together the first and second coupling elements can form a coupling mechanism to join the first and second augments together. In some examples, the coupling mechanism can include a bulbous tip portion and a recess to receive and retain the bulbous tip portion.

Methods for attaching acetabular augments together or to acetabular shells

An orthopedic implant can comprise a structural body, a plug and a frangible connection. The structural body can comprise a first surface, a second surface opposing the first surface, and a through-bore extending from the first surface to the second surface. The through-bore can have a bore surface. The structural body can be formed of a porous material. The plug can be disposed in the through-bore. The frangible connection can link the bore surface and the plug. A method of manufacturing an orthopedic implant can comprise producing a porous structural body having a port, producing a plug for positioning in the port, and producing a plurality of frangible crosspieces within the port to connect the plug to the structural body.

A ratcheting driver can be configured to selectively transmit a torque to a fastener. The driver can include a handle, a geared body, and a shaft. The handle can include a housing, a pawl, and a biasing element. The housing can include a central bore and a shaft bore extending through a distal portion of the housing. The pawl can extend radially inward from the housing into the central bore. The biasing element can engage the housing. The geared body can be rotatably engageable with the pawl to allow rotation of the geared body relative to the handle in a first direction and to limit rotation of the geared body relative to the handle in a second direction, where the biasing element can be engageable with the geared body to bias the geared body distally.

Illustrative methods and systems for customizing a pre-manufactured acetabular shell to a specific patient are described herein. An illustrative method can include positioning a provisional shell at an acetabulum of the patient, the provisional shell having a plurality of selectable openings. The method further including marking, based on the assessing of the bone, a patient-matched hole location on a provisional liner that corresponds to one of the plurality of selectable openings in the provisional shell. With the provisional liner marked, the method can further include removing the provisional liner from the provisional shell and positioning the provisional liner in the pre-manufactured acetabular shell that is to be implanted in the patient. Using the provisional liner as a guide, the method can include forming a hole in the acetabular shell corresponding to the marked patient-matched hole location on the provisional liner.

Methods and systems for patient-specific acetabular implants

A method of anatomically positioning screw holes in an acetabular implant that can be used in surgery, such as a total hip arthroplasty. In some examples the method can be used to position holes in a shell of the implant. The method can include, for example, obtaining anatomic data including data defining an arch of bone behind an acetabulum of the living being, the arch of bone extending from a superior anterior portion to an inferior posterior portion of the acetabulum. The method can further include positioning a first series of holes along a first arched line within the acetabular shell, the first arched line determined based on the anatomic data for the arch of bone proximate the acetabulum of the living being.

Prosthesis and methods including anatomically positioned holes

A method of securing an orthopedic hip prosthesis to an acetabulum of a living being. The prosthesis can be a shell or a cup, and the surgery can be a total hip arthroplasty such as a revision total hip arthroplasty. In some examples the method can include placing an augment at a bone surface of the acetabulum, applying a layer of fixation material over the bone surface in an amount sufficient to cover the augment, and then implanting the prosthesis over the layer of fixation material to secure the prosthesis to the layer of fixation material. In various aspects of the method, the augment can be an anchor or a spacer.

Augments and methods for implanting hip prostheses

Various different porous screws and pegs are disclosed herein, as are methods of manufacturing such porous pegs or screws. The porous screws and pegs, in certain examples, are formed through additive manufacturing and have improved porosity for bone ingrowth. In certain cases, additive manufacturing or another manufacturing technique can be used to cover only part or all of the threads of the screws or pegs disclosed herein with a porous material. Such screws or pegs can have porosity but also threads that are capable of effectively digging into bone.

Porous fixation devices and methods

A surgical bone rasp includes a body having posterior, anterior, medial, and lateral surfaces. The medial surface includes a proximal curved portion shaped to extend substantially along a concave medial curve. The proximal curved portion includes a plurality of teeth. Each tooth in the plurality includes a tooth gullet wall, a tooth undercut, and a tooth land between the proximal and tooth undercuts. The tooth lands can be generally flat and can extend along the concave medial curve. The tooth gullet walls can be parallel to one another and can be angled to extend away from the body between a distal direction and a medial direction. The tooth undercuts can be parallel to one another, can be angled to extend away from the body in a medial direction, and can be equally spaced apart along the longitudinal axis.

A surgeon can place a bone perforator in contact with a bone, and can hammer on the bone perforator. The hammering can drive teeth on the bone perforator into the bone, thereby creating a perforation in the bone. The surgeon can pry or break the bone along the perforation, can access tissue beneath the bone as needed, and can replace the bone along the perforation. In some examples, the bone perforator is formed as a bendable sheet having teeth in a fixed, single-file pattern, with a hammerable surface opposite the teeth. In other examples, the bone perforator has repositionable teeth.

A surgical cutting guide includes a guide body removably attachable to a proximal end of an implanted prosthesis. The guide body has at least one locator configured to azimuthally orient the guide body with respect to the prosthesis. The guide body has at least one slot extending from a proximal side of the guide body to a distal side of the guide body. A method of removing an implanted prosthesis can attach a surgical cutting guide to an implanted prosthesis with a specified azimuthal orientation, can direct an osteotome through a slot in the surgical cutting guide to a specified location at or near an interface between the prosthesis and the bone, can dislodge the prosthesis from the bone using the osteotome, can retract the osteotome through the slot, and can remove the dislodged prosthesis from the bone.
