For polyharmonic flux motor loss increase, a method offsets pulse width modulation (PWM) carriers to a motor to increase motor harmonics. The offset PWM carriers increase energy losses for the motor.

Polyharmonic flux motor loss increase

For motor stator resistance calculation, a method estimates an output voltage using a Direct Current (DC) bus voltage and a duty ratio for a motor drive at a first switching frequency and at least one second switching frequency. The method measures an output current at the first switching frequency and the at least one second switching frequency. The method calculates a first stator resistance for the first switching frequency and at least one second stator resistance for the at least one second switching frequency. The method estimates a stator resistance at a DC condition based on the first stator resistance and the at least one second stator resistance. The method sets a dynamic compensation based on a stator resistance error between the first switching frequency and the at least one second switching frequency.

Motor stator resistance calculation

Power conversion systems and a controller thereof include a processing system that generates inverter switching control signals at a switching frequency, and transitions the switching frequency from a starting frequency to a target frequency over an integer number N blocks. The individual blocks include an integer number M subblocks with a starting frequency subblock in which the processing system generates the switching control signals at the starting frequency, and a target frequency subblock in which the processing system generates the switching control signals at the target frequency. The processing system operates the inverter at multiple demanded voltage values for multiple characterized switching frequencies, measures and records a corresponding inverter output current value for each of the demanded voltage values, creates and stores a lookup table for adjusted demand voltages at each of the characterized switching frequencies, and operate the inverter according to the adjusted demand voltages.

For high frequency injection (HFI) transition disturbance elimination, a processor directs an HFI transition for a motor. The processor determines compensation pulse voltages for an HFI compensation pulse. The processor further injects a sum of the HFI compensation pulse and an HFI voltage into a current regulator voltage output signal for a compensation Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) cycle. The HFI compensation pulse settles an HFI current to a steady state.

For flux map identification, a method applies an initial voltage to a motor. The motor is a salient motor. The method generates a flux map for the motor. Power conversion systems and a controller thereof includes a first processing system that computes phase references for respective phase lines of an inverter according to a feedback value, a setpoint value, and a scaling factor to emulate a scaled frequency that is less than a switching frequency, and a second processing system that generates a carrier waveform having the switching frequency, receives the phase reference from the first processing system for each inverter phase line, and compares each phase reference with the carrier waveform to generate pulse width modulated switching control signals for switching devices of the inverter.
