A system for measuring pump efficiency includes a pump configured to pump a fluid, a suction pipe disposed upstream of a suction side of the pump, a discharge pipe disposed downstream of a discharge side of the pump, a first pipe section disposed between the suction pipe and the suction side of the pump, and a second pipe section disposed between the discharge pipe and the discharge side of the pump. Each of the first pipe section and the second pipe section includes a temperature sensing pipe liner configured to measure a temperature of the fluid in the first pipe section, and a thermal insulator disposed radially outward of the temperature sensing pipe liner.

A valve includes a case comprising a pin bore, a pin configured to move axially in the pin bore, wherein the pin seals the pin bore, a first channel in communication with the pin bore, a second channel in communication with the pin bore, wherein the second channel comprises a restrictor at a location offset from the first channel, a third channel in communication with the pin bore, wherein the third channel comprises a check valve, and the second channel and third channel are in communication with each other. The valve can be a miniature valve that is used in the control of hydraulic fluid in prosthesis, such as a prosthetic ankle joint.

A machine health monitoring method may include receiving vibration data indicating vibration of a machine or a component of the machine, determining damage to the machine or the component for each of a plurality of load cycles based on the vibration data, determining the time rate of change of the damage to the machine or the component over the plurality of load cycles, and determining a damage rate based on the time rate of change of the damage to the machine or the component relative to a baseline damage rate.

Machine health monitoring system and method

A compression method for resource constrained local area networks (LANs) of an Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) reduces the volume of raw data sent from 'Things' to connection points on the LAN. Applications include industrial processes, and typically include multiple sensor nodes. Sensors on machines wirelessly send data to a base station using a wireless LAN. A computer or server in communication with the wireless LAN computes the health of a machine based on the data received. The method operates by taking advantage of unique similarities between sequential groups of certain types of data that can be sent on the LAN. Mathematical operations are performed on the baseline and subsequent data sets to determine similarities. A difference is taken between the baseline and subsequent data sets, and this difference is compressed and sent to the base station where the original data is reconstructed using the baseline data and uncompressed difference data.

Compression method for resource constrained local area networks

A system having a variety of mobile assets to which are attached one or more wireless sensors and associated with each mobile asset to automate enterprise software organization of assets among dynamically changing sites. A plurality of receivers receive data from redundant wireless sensors, and at least one gateway aggregates wireless sensor data from the receivers, the wireless sensors, receivers and gateway forming a local network associated with a given site. At least one server hosting enterprise software receives aggregated data from the at least one gateway. The enterprise software identifies the location of an asset based on association of a local network with a site and association of sensors with an asset.

Equipment analysis for mobile assets

A wireless edge device is operable in a wireless network and configured to communicate with other wireless devices in the wireless network. The wireless edge device includes a processor configured to receive an input to switch from a low power consumption normal operation mode to a site survey mode, a transceiver configured to (i) transmit data packets periodically or asynchronously to a wireless device of the wireless network, and (ii) receive the data packets returned by the wireless device, and a visual indicator. The processor is further configured to evaluate quality and/or reliability of the received data packets, to provide a signal to the visual indicator indicative of signal strength at the wireless edge device based on the evaluation of quality and/or reliability of the received data packets, and to switch from the site survey mode to the low power consumption normal operation mode after a predetermined time.

A sensor may include a base, an accelerometer rigidly coupled with the base and centered over said base, a circuit arrangement electrically coupled with the accelerometer, and a battery rigidly held in contact with the circuit arrangement and centered over said accelerometer and said base. The base is configured to be secured to a host structure, and the circuit arrangement is configured to receive signals from the accelerometer.

Vibration sensor

An antenna assembly including an antenna, an antenna cable, a bendable structure, a housing interface, a first protection section and a second protection section. The bendable structure is a malleable material that remains in a bent position when bent. The first protection section covers the antenna and provides a weatherproof cover over the antenna. The housing interface mounts to a housing and covers the antenna cable in an area of the antenna cable adapted to enter the housing and the housing interface prior to entrance providing a weatherproof cover over the area of the antenna cable adapted to enter the housing. The second protection section is overmolded over a portion of the housing interface, the antenna cable, the bendable structure and a portion of the first protection. The second protection section is a flexible material.

Flow sensor includes a housing having a chamber and a tube extending therefrom. Static and stagnation pressure ports are located along the tube and open in different directions about a periphery. A first conduit fluidly couples the static pressure port to the chamber, and a first pressure sensor senses the fluid pressure in the chamber. A differential pressure sensor has a first port and a second port in the chamber. The first port senses the fluid pressure in the chamber, and a second conduit fluidly couples the stagnation pressure port with the second port. The second port is more exposed to fluid flow through the pipe relative to the first port. Fluid flow rate through the pipe is determinable based on static fluid pressure sensed by the first pressure sensor, differential pressure measured by the differential pressure sensor, density of fluid in the pipe, and diameter of the pipe.

A source node in a network accesses information associated with a set of available transmission states. The source node selects a first transmission state from the set of available transmission states. The source node evaluates a metric associated with transmitting the data. The source node determines whether the metric is below a threshold value. Based on determining that the metric is below the threshold value, the source node selects a second transmission state from the set of available transmission states, the second transmission state being different from the first transmission state. The source node transmits data using the second transmission state.

Channel adaptation in sensor networks

An energy harvesting device utilizing a monolithic, mesoscale, single-degree-of-freedom inertial based resonator in which the support structure, beam-spring, and proof mass are a single component without joints, bonds, or fasteners. Frequency tuning features include holes in the proof mass in which mass can be added to change the devices resonance frequency as well as levers which add curvature to the beam-spring system and adjust system stiffness. Robustness is increase by designing the resonator to exhibit nonlinear behavior such that its power density is maximized for low vibration amplitudes and minimized for high amplitudes. The device structural resonance modes are designed to be much higher than the resonators proof mass-spring resonance frequency. Electromechanical transducers are used to convert the resonators mechanical energy to electrical energy. Electrical circuitry is included to extract and condition the electrical charge.

An apparatus for harvesting energy from motion of a prosthetic limb, wherein the prosthetic limb has motion in at least one degree of freedom, may include a hydraulic amplifier mechanically coupled with a generator. The hydraulic amplifier may include an input member configured to receive an input motion when a first motion in a degree of freedom of the prosthetic limb causes pressure and motion of hydraulic fluid. The hydraulic amplifier is configured to amplify the input motion of the input member to a greater output motion. The generator is configured to convert mechanical energy of the output motion into corresponding electrical energy delivered to one of an electrical load and an electrical storage reservoir.

Apparatuses and methods for harvesting energy from prosthetic limbs

A improved method of monitoring a structure by mounting a sensor within a cavity of the structure to measure at least one of strain experienced by the structure and vibration experience by the structure. Mounting a wireless communication unit mounted within the structure and connecting the wireless communication unit to the sensor to receive data from the sensor and transmit the data to a receiver outside the structure. Mounting a power supply within the structure and connecting the power supply to the sensor and the wireless communication unit to supply necessary electrical power to the sensor and the communication unit.

An apparatus for harvesting energy from motion of a prosthetic limb, wherein the prosthetic limb has motion in at least one degree of freedom, may include a piston configured to receive an input motion and provide an output motion when a first motion in a degree of freedom of the prosthetic limb causes pressure and motion of hydraulic fluid. The apparatus may include an electromagnetic motor for converting mechanical energy of the output motion into corresponding electrical energy delivered to an electrical load and a variable-impedance energy harvesting circuit across terminals of the motor.
