A system for removing fluid from a urinary tract includes at least one sensor configured to detect signal(s) representative of pulmonary artery pressure and communicate signal(s) representative of the pulmonary artery pressure and a controller. The controller is configured to: receive and process the signal(s) from the at least one sensor to determine if the pulmonary artery pressure is above, below, or at a predetermined value; and provide a control signal, determined at least in part from the pulmonary artery pressure signal(s) received from the at least one sensor, to a negative pressure source to apply negative pressure to a urinary catheter to remove fluid from a urinary tract when the pulmonary artery pressure is above the predetermined value and to cease applying negative pressure when the pulmonary artery pressure is at or below the predetermined value.

Negative pressure therapy system and methods

A pump for inducing negative pressure in the ureter and/or kidney is provided. The pump is configured to be in communication with at least one lumen of at least one ureteral catheter and to draw fluid from the ureter and/or kidney into the at least one lumen of the at least one ureteral catheter for removal of the fluid from the ureter and/or kidney. The pump is configured to induce negative pressure ranging from about 0.1 mmHg to about 50 mmHg gauge pressure proximate to the pump inlet, and the pump is configured to have an accuracy of about 10 mmHg or less proximate to the pump inlet.

Pump, system and methods of inducing negative pressure to increase renal perfusion

A ureteral catheter includes a drainage lumen including a proximal portion configured to be positioned in at least a portion of a patient's urethra and/or bladder and a distal portion configured to be positioned in a patient's kidney, renal pelvis, and/or in the ureter adjacent to the renal pelvis, the distal portion including a retention portion for maintaining positioning of the distal portion of the drainage lumen, the retention portion including two or more openings on a sidewall of the retention portion for permitting fluid flow into the drainage lumen, wherein a number of the openings nearer to a distal end of the retention portion is greater than a number of the opening(s) nearer to a proximal end of the retention portion.

Ureteral and bladder catheters and methods of inducing negative pressure to increase renal perfusion

A percutaneous urinary catheter configured to be deployed in a urinary tract, including: (a) a proximal portion; and (b) a distal portion including a retention portion configured to be deployed in a kidney and/or a renal pelvis, the retention portion including one or more drainage holes leading to one or more lumen(s) within the proximal portion, wherein the retention portion, when deployed, defines a three-dimensional shape sized and positioned to maintain patency of fluid flow between the kidney and/or renal pelvis and a proximal end of the catheter by inhibiting mucosal tissue from appreciably occluding the one or more drainage holes when negative pressure is applied through the catheter.

Percutaneous urinary catheter

A percutaneous urinary catheter is provided, including a proximal portion, a distal portion configured to be deployed in a kidney and/or renal pelvis of the urinary tract, and at least one lumen extending at least partially through the proximal portion of the percutaneous urinary catheter; and a negative pressure source in fluid communication with the at least one lumen, the negative pressure source being configured to draw fluid from the urinary tract into the at least one lumen of the percutaneous urinary catheter for removal of the fluid from the urinary tract.

Ureteral or bladder catheters and systems are provided, including (a) a proximal portion; and (b) a distal portion, the distal portion including a retention portion including an outer periphery or protective surface area which prevents mucosal tissue from occluding one or more protected drainage holes, ports, or perforations disposed within the outer periphery or protective surface area upon application of negative pressure through the catheter.

Ureteral catheters, bladder catheters, systems, kits and methods for inducing negative pressure to increase renal function

A pump assembly is provided, including a pump module configured to be positioned within an interior portion of a ureter and/or renal pelvis of a patient for providing negative pressure to the patient's ureter and/or kidney, the pump module including: a housing including a flow channel for conducting fluid, wherein the housing is configured to be positioned within the interior portion of the ureter and/the renal pelvis; and a pump element positioned within the channel to draw fluid through the channel; and a control module coupled to the pump module, the control module being configured to direct motion of the pump element to control flow rate of fluid passing through the channel, and including a housing configured to be positioned within at least one of a second interior portion of the patient's ureter, a second portion of the patient's renal pelvis, or an interior portion of a patient's bladder.

Indwelling pump for facilitating removal of urine from the urinary tract

Negative pressure therapy systems are provided for increasing urine production, the negative pressure therapy system including: (a) a pump assembly, the pump assembly including: (i) a pump configured to provide negative pressure to a kidney, and (ii) a controller configured to regulate the negative pressure provided by the pump within a pressure range that facilitates increased urine production from the kidney.

Negative pressure therapy system

A ureteral catheter for placement in a kidney, renal pelvis, and/or in a ureter adjacent to the renal pelvis of a patient, includes: an elongated tube having a proximal end, a distal end, and a sidewall extending therebetween defining at least one drainage lumen extending through the tube, wherein a proximal portion of the elongated tube is essentially free of or free of openings; and an expandable retention portion which defines a three-dimensional shape positioned to maintain fluid flow from the kidney through at least the distal end of the tube and inhibit tissue of the ureter or renal pelvis from occluding the at least one drainage lumen at the distal end of the elongated tube upon application of negative pressure through the drainage lumen, wherein the three-dimensional space defined by the expandable retention portion encloses at least a portion of the distal end of the elongated tube.

A negative pressure therapy system is provided for inducing negative pressure in a portion of a urinary tract of a patient, the system including: (a) at least one ureteral catheter configured to be positioned within a ureter and/or kidney of a patient; (b) one or more sensor(s) configured to determine information about urine produced within a urinary tract of the patient; and (c) a controller configured to increase urine production of the patient by adjusting one or more operating parameters of a negative pressure source for inducing negative pressure through the at least one ureteral catheter into the urinary tract of the patient, based at least in part upon the information determined by the one or more sensor(s).

A ureteral catheter is provided, including a drainage lumen including a proximal portion and a distal portion configured to be positioned in a patient's kidney, renal pelvis, and/or in the ureter adjacent to the renal pelvis, the distal portion including a retention portion for maintaining positioning of the distal portion of the drainage lumen, the retention portion including at least two openings on a sidewall of the retention portion for permitting fluid flow into the drainage lumen wherein a total area of a proximal most opening of the at least two openings is less than a total area of more distal opening(s) nearer to the distal end of the drainage lumen, and wherein when negative pressure is applied through the ureteral catheter, fluid is drawn into the ureteral catheter through the at least two openings.

A catheter includes an elongated tube having a distal portion having a distal end and a sidewall defining at least one drainage lumen. The catheter also includes a permeable material. The permeable material is configured to be deployed in the urinary tract to maintain the distal end of the elongated tube at a predetermined position in a bladder, a ureter, a renal pelvis, or a kidney of the patient. When deployed, the permeable material defines a three-dimensional shape of sufficient size to permit flow of at least a portion of fluid from the urinary tract through the permeable material and the at least one drainage lumen.

Catheter device and method for inducing negative pressure in a patient's bladder

Ureteral or bladder catheters are provided, including (a) a proximal portion; and (b) a distal portion, the distal portion including a retention portion that includes one or more protected drainage holes, ports or perforations and is configured to establish an outer periphery or protective surface area that inhibits mucosal tissue from occluding the one or more protected drainage holes, ports or perforations upon application of negative pressure through the catheter. Systems, kits and methods for inducing negative pressure to increase renal function also are provided.
