A tissue cutting device has a blade that pivots to pierce through tissue and translates to cut tissue, thereby providing a clean and smooth cut through tissue. The blade is coupled to an axial rod. Axial displacement of the axial rod pivots the blade and imparts axial displacement to the blade.

A surgical access device includes a seal assembly, an upper housing portion, a lower housing portion, and a tubular member. The seal assembly has an instrument seal and is coupled to the upper housing portion. A first valve is partially disposed in an upper chamber of the upper housing portion and a second valve is partially disposed in a lower chamber of the lower housing portion. A valve assembly extends from the upper housing portion and is in fluid communication with the upper chamber. A source of insufflation fluid is attachable to the valve assembly.

The overstroke sled includes bosses configured to slidably engage slots of the driver coupling. The distal driver is coupled to a housing of the driver coupling for concomitant rotation therewith. A drive assembly of the loading unit is coupled to the distal driver such that rotation of the distal driver causes axial displacement of the drive assembly. The decoupling mechanism is transitionable between a first state, in which, rotation of the proximal driver of the decoupling mechanism rotates the driver coupling and the distal driver, thereby advancing the drive assembly, and a second state, in which, rotation of the proximal driver disengages the overstroke sled from the driver coupling to enable rotation of the overstroke sled relative to the driver coupling.

The end effector is disposed in operative engagement with the drive shaft such that longitudinal translation of the drive shaft relative to the housing of the handle assembly causes the first jaw member to move toward the second jaw member. An auxiliary return system for use with a bipolar electrosurgical device includes a tissue guard defining an open proximal end, an open distal end, and a lumen extending therethrough between the open proximal end and the open distal end. A ground plate is disposed along an inner peripheral surface of the lumen and is operably coupled to a first end of a ground wire extending from the tissue guard. A coupling is included having a bore defined therein for receiving a cable from an electrosurgical device therethrough, the cable including active and ground leads. The coupling has a flange extending therefrom defining a receptacle therein configured to operably receive a plug connected to a second end of the ground wire. The receptacle is configured to provide electrical continuity between the ground lead disposed within the cable and the plug coupled to the ground wire which, in turn, provides electrical continuity to the ground plate.

A surgical stapling device includes a tool assembly and a drive assembly for actuating the tool assembly. The tool assembly includes a cartridge assembly having a staple cartridge and an anvil assembly that supports a lockout mechanism. The staple cartridge includes a cartridge body and an actuation sled and knife assembly that includes an actuation sled and a knife. The actuation sled and knife assembly is movable in relation to the cartridge body to eject staples from the cartridge body and to cut tissue. The anvil assembly supports a lockout mechanism that includes a lockout member that is movable between a locked position and an unlocked position. The drive assembly is movable from a retracted position to an advanced position to move the actuation sled and knife assembly from its retracted position to its advanced position. In the locked position, the lockout member obstructs movement of the drive assembly from its retracted position towards its advanced position.

A return electrode is disposed on an exposed surface of the protective guard. The return electrode is electrically connected to a second potential of the source of electrosurgical energy. A biasing member includes a first end operably connected to the distal end of the body and a second end operably connected to the protective guard.

A surgical stapling apparatus includes a loading unit, a surgical buttress, and a buttress retention band. The loading unit includes an anvil assembly and a staple cartridge assembly. The staple cartridge assembly includes a staple cartridge having a tissue facing surface including staple pockets and a central longitudinal slot defined therethrough, and a protrusion extending outwardly therefrom. The surgical buttress includes a proximal end portion and a distal end portion. The proximal end portion is positioned over the protrusion of the staple cartridge. The buttress retention band is disposed around the proximal end portion of the surgical buttress and the protrusion of the staple cartridge to releasably secure the proximal end portion of the surgical buttress to the staple cartridge assembly.
