A steer-by-wire steering column includes a single column jacket extending in a longitudinal direction. The steering column also includes a single steering shaft extending in the longitudinal direction and housed at least partially within the single column jacket. The steering column further includes a steer-by-wire electric actuator at least partially disposed within the single column jacket and surrounding the single steering shaft to provide resistance to the single steering shaft.

A bushing for a steering column rake bracket assembly includes a flange portion. The bushing also includes a tubular segment having an inner wall defining a central hole and an outer wall. The outer wall of the tubular segment includes a first flat outer surface. The outer wall also includes a second flat outer surface. The outer wall further includes a first curved end surface connecting the first flat outer surface and the second flat outer surface. The outer wall yet further includes a second curved end surface connecting the first flat outer surface and the second flat outer surface.

The steering column assembly also includes a motor operatively coupled to the rim extension segment. The steering column assembly yet further includes a first pair of sliding wedge bushings disposed within the first set of tapered rail slots.

A no-back spring apparatus includes a body having an annular shape extending between an outer diameter and an inner diameter, the body comprising a first axial side and a second axial side, the second axial side including a flat portion extending from the inner diameter toward the outer diameter. The no-back spring apparatus also includes a plurality of retaining fingers circumferentially spaced from each other and integrally formed with the body and extending radially outwardly from the outer diameter. The no-back spring apparatus further includes a plurality of spring elements integrally formed with the body, each of the plurality of spring elements including a tab portion extending radially inwardly from the inner dimeter.

The steering column assembly also includes a lower jacket, wherein the upper jacket is received within the lower jacket and is telescopingly adjustable therein, the lower jacket defining a pair of slots extending in an axial direction of the lower jacket. The steering column assembly further includes a column mounting bracket, wherein the lower jacket translates and rotates relative to the column mounting bracket. The steering column assembly yet further includes a pair of bushings positioned within the pair of slots. The steering column assembly also includes a geared rack operatively coupled to one of the pair of bushings, the geared rack correspondingly rotatable with the lower jacket. The steering column assembly further includes a sensor in operative contact with the geared rack to detect the axial position of the axially adjustable steering column assembly.

A steering column assembly includes a telescope drive bracket. The steering column assembly also includes a first jacket operatively coupled to the telescope drive bracket. The steering column assembly further includes a second jacket, wherein the first jacket is telescopingly moveable relative to the second jacket. The steering column yet further includes a collapse limiting feature having a cam portion and a blocking portion, wherein the blocking portion defines a first range of travel of the first jacket in a first position, wherein contact between the telescope drive bracket and the cam portion biases the blocking portion out of a first jacket path to allow a second, greater range of travel for the first jacket.

Steering column energy absorption displacement limiter

A steering column has a tubular jacket supported by a mount bracket. The tubular jacket extends along a central axis between lower and upper ends, and is pivotal about a pivot axis. The mount bracket has first and second sidewalls spaced from one another for movement of the tubular jacket therebetween. The first and second sidewalls have first and second lock features, respectively. A lock bolt extends along a lock bolt axis transversely to the central axis. First and second lock cams are operably supported by the lock bolt for rotation about the lock bolt axis between locked and unlocked states. The first and second lock cams have respective first and second lock cam lock features for engagement with the first and second lock features, respectively, to releasably lock the tubular jacket against pivotal movement about the pivot axis in opposite first and second directions, respectively.

A method of assembling a steering column assembly includes pressing a first pivot bushing into a first rake bracket first opening of a first rake bracket and inserting a first pivot fastener into the first pivot bushing and into a first mounting bracket opening of a first mounting bracket arm of a mounting bracket. The method further includes displacing material of the first mounting bracket arm with first splines of the first pivot fastener to form first mating splines within the first mounting bracket opening.
