An ink handling unit includes an ink reservoir with an integrated heat exchange channel configured for pre-heating or pre-cooling an ink feed flow entering the ink reservoir via the heat exchange channel. The heat exchange channel is in direct thermal contact with an interior space of the ink reservoir. An ink jet imaging device includes the ink handling unit. Such imaging devices are suitable to be used in highly productive ink jet processes at elevated temperatures.

A method of printing a substrate with ink drops, image-wise, utilizing an inkjet printing device containing at least one print head provided with at least one row of nozzles, the substrate forming a regular field of pixel rows and pixel columns, the resolution of the pixel columns being equal to the resolution of the row of nozzles, wherein a first printing stage is initiated in which a strip of pixel rows is provided with ink drops, whereafter the print head is displaced in a direction substantially parallel to the pixel columns, and a second printing stage is initiated in which the strip is provided with supplementary ink drops, wherein the print head is displaced over a distance such that the same is substantially equal to the width of one pixel row.

A printing device having multiple print heads is disclosed, which obviates the need to dynamically control temperature differences between distinct print heads. The printing device is provided with a heat exchange device for bringing the temperature of each print head to a predetermined temperature value, and with an adjustment device for adjusting the temperature of one or more print heads from the predetermined temperature values to a static target temperature value. The target temperature values are determined in relation to an output parameter of the printing system such that a minimal adjustment is required. Also disclosed a method for controlling device.

A method of selectively assigning to a picture element to be imaged with a color reproduction system a pertinent (permanent) indication relating to the distinguishing of color with respect to picture element, wherein, on the basis of the associated parameter values related to color saturation and intensity, a choice is first made for that picture element from a permanent indication of colorlessness a permanent indication of color behavior, and a provisional indication concerning an undefined color behavior. In the case of a picture element having a provisional indication, this indication is then converted to a permanent indication on the basis of the results of an analysis of the distribution of parameter values in the color space with respect to picture elements occurring within an environment of the associated picture element. According to this method, pastel hues can be reproduced in a logical and perceptually acceptable manner despite the presence of scanner noise.

Method of assigning a pertinent indication in respect of color behavior

In a system and method for automatically segmenting a scanned document to separate areas containing different types of information such as black/white text or graphics, continuous tone pictures, and half-tone pictures, the document is divided into a number of subimages and the individual subimages are classified in an initial labeling phase. The initial label matrix thus obtained is relaxed in a subsequent step so that a pattern of uniformly labeled segments corresponding to the areas in the document containing different types of information is the result. In order to speed-up the system and/or improve the robustness thereof, the number of initial labels used in the initial labeling step is selected larger than the number of types of information to be distinguished. The number of initial labels is then reduced in the relaxation step on the basis of a series of context rules.
