A process for converting cellulose to glucose, said process comprising the steps of: providing a hydrated molten salt; contacting the hydrated molten salt with a cellulose-containing material to form dissolved glucose; removing the dissolved glucose from the hydrated molten salt.

Process for the conversion of cellulose in hydrated molten salts

A process is disclosed process for converting a solid or highly viscous carbon-based energy carrier material to liquid and gaseous reaction products, said process comprising the steps of: a) contacting the carbon-based energy carrier material with a particulate catalyst material b) converting the carbon-based energy carrier material at a reaction temperature between 200&#xb0; C. and 450&#xb0; C., preferably between 250&#xb0; C. and 350&#xb0; C., thereby forming reaction products in the vapor phase. In a preferred embodiment the process comprises the additional step of: c) separating the vapor phase reaction products from the particulate catalyst material within 10 seconds after said reaction products are formed. In a further preferred embodiment step c) is followed by: d) quenching the reaction products to a temperature below 200&#xb0; C.

Process for converting carbon-based energy carrier material

The process described in the instant invention has the steps of dissolving the lipid-containing biomass in an ionic liquid, whereby a lipid phase and a hydrophilic phase are formed. The lipid phase contains primarily triglycerides, which can be converted to biodiesel by transesterification to, e.g., methyl esters. The hydrophilic phase comprises dissolved biopolymers, such as cellulose, hemicellulose, and protein. The biopolymers are converted in situ to compounds that are insoluble in the molten inorganic salt hydrate. The molten inorganic salt hydrates regenerated by removing insolubles, such as lignin, ash from the biomass, and water.

Process to separate lipids from lipid-containing biomass for producing platform chemicals and/or liquid biofuels

A process is disclosed for converting polysaccharides to platform chemicals. The process comprises dissolving the polysaccharides in a inorganic molten salt hydrate, converting the polysaccharides to monosaccharides, and converting the monosaccharides to platform chemicals that are easily separable from the inorganic molten salt hydrate. Preferably the polysaccharides are provided in the form of a biomass, more preferably a ligno-cellulosic biomass.

Process for converting polysaccharides in an inorganic molten salt hydrate

A process is disclosed for converting a polysaccharide-containing biomass material to platform chemicals. The process comprises dissolving the polysaccharides in an inorganic molten salt hydrate, converting the polysaccharides to monosaccharides, and converting the monosaccharides to derivatized (di)anhydro sugars that are easily separable from the inorganic molten salt hydrate. The derivatized (di)anhydro sugars are useful as fuel additives and fuel substitutes.

A process to prepare a gasoline fuel by contacting a Fischer-Tropsch product with a catalyst system of an acidic matrix and a large pore molecular sieve wherein the Fischer-Tropsch product has a weight ratio of compounds having at least 60 or more carbon atoms and compounds having at least 30 carbon atoms in the Fischer-Tropsch product of at least 0.2 and wherein at least 30 wt % of compounds in the Fischer-Tropsch product have at least 30 carbon atoms.

Process to prepare a gasoline

A method and apparatus for the oxidation of liquid or solid contaminants in the exhaust gas from diesel engines is provided. The process is conducted by passing the contaminated diesel engine exhaust gas through a turbulent gas flow, particulate separator, wherein this separator contains a plurality of separate and serially-arranged vertical plates arranged so that there is no net gas flow in the space between two adjacent vertical plates. The plates contain a catalytically active surface of (i) a mixture of metal salts and/or metals oxides, such as a mixture of the oxides of vanadium, molybdenum and alkali metals, which may be in a molten state at the operating temperature of the separator and (ii) one or more catalytically active metal or metal compounds to promote the oxidation of soot, such as metals or metal compounds of iron, platinum and palladium.
