Adaptive processing of alert messages allows proactive maintenance. Alert messages are monitored and compared to a threshold. If a threshold number of the alert messages is exceeded, diagnostic codes are retrieved and a query value may be adjusted.

Adaptive analysis of diagnostic messages

A method and apparatus for providing automated processing of a switched voice alarm on a switched and/or Internet Protocol (IP) network are disclosed. For example, the method receives an alarm associated with a switched voice service, and retrieves a Local Routing Number (LRN) or Primary Inter-exchange Carrier (PIC) information from a switch serving a call associated with a caller's telephone number. The method determines if the alarm is due to one or more service degradations, and notifies a work center responsible for one or more of the service degradations if the alarm is due to the one or more service degradations.

Method and apparatus for providing automated processing of a switched voice service alarm

Embodiments of the present invention are directed to diagnosing problems in a dual stack network supporting Internet Protocol Version Six (IPV6). Inventoried information can be retrieved from an inventory system in response to a problem associated the dual stack network. It can be determined whether a mismatch exists between live customer address information associated with a customer edge router and the inventoried information. A notification can be generated in response to determining whether a mismatch exists. The notification includes information representing a cause of the problem and resolution of the problem.

Example methods, apparatus and articles to manage routing in networks are disclosed. A disclosed example method includes identifying a first network element associated with a problematic network element; identifying a first maximum transmission unit of the first network element and a second maximum transmission unit of the problematic network element; determining whether the first and second maximum transmission units are different; and when the first and second maximum transmission units are different, identifying a value of a greater one of the first and second maximum transmission units and configuring the first network element and the problematic network element to each have the identified value.

Methods, apparatus and articles of manufacture to manage routing in networks

A method and system for adaptive processing of alert messages exchanged between applications is disclosed. The system may include a diagnostic engine coupled to a plurality of applications. A plurality of application alert messages may be monitored to determine if the alerts exceed a predetermined threshold. If a threshold number of alert messages is exceeded, an interface status based on a diagnostic code for the interface may be determined. A query value for the interface may be adjusted. Based on the amount of the increase in the alert messages, different actions may be indicated. An administrator for the application interface or for equipment associated with the interface may be notified for servicing the equipment.

Adaptive application interface management

A method includes detecting, at a customer premises equipment (CPE) device, a problem associated with a network device. The network device is communicatively coupled to the CPE device via a local area network. For example, the CPE device may include a residential gateway (RG). The method includes determining, at the CPE device, whether the problem associated with the network device is locally correctable. When the CPE device determines that the problem is locally correctable, the method includes initiating a corrective action to resolve the problem. When the CPE device determines that the problem is not locally correctable, the method includes sending data associated with the problem from the CPE device to a network system via a wide area network.

Locally diagnosing and troubleshooting service issues

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a controller to automatically check lower level layer test results of an IPTV or iTV network, automatically retrieve inventory data from an inventory system, automatically retrieve a Layer 4 data from a live router by executing a show Class of Service (COS) interface command, automatically compare a COS value with a value from the inventory system to determine a mismatch, and automatically create an alert if the mismatch exists. Other embodiments are disclosed.

An automated security infrastructure is disclosed that includes security agents that are designed to analyze security issues. The security agents process events received from event-messages, and records data associated with a security issue in a ticket. Security and management personnel are kept informed based on notification subscription lists. Assigned security personnel's progress in resolving outstanding security issues is monitored until those issues are resolved.

In one example, functional units of the systems are exposed to define abstract function signatures. The subject disclosure provides a system and methods for a central network monitoring authority to be automatically alerted upon loss of broadband connectivity at a residential gateway. In connection with detecting a connectivity loss in a residential gateway, traceable alert data is created, a mobile device is located within range of an associated femto cell, the traceable alert data is provided to the mobile device; and the mobile device is then employed to transmit the traceable alert data to a central network monitoring authority.

System and method for reporting loss of broadband connectivity

Methods, systems, and products maintain reflective maintenance records for a network. Test results are mirrored from different testing applications to a centralized testing database. The test results are associated to circuit identifiers. A work order is received that identifies trouble associated with a customer. A circuit identifier associated with the customer is retrieved and, prior to performing a test of a circuit to resolve the trouble, the centralized testing database is queried for the circuit identifier. A test result associated with the circuit identifier is retrieved and the work order is updated with the test result.

A disclosed example method includes obtaining a first interior gateway routing protocol route selection metric associated with a first router and a second interior gateway routing protocol route selection metric associated with a second router communicatively coupled to the first router, detecting whether a mismatch exists between the first and second first interior gateway routing protocol route selection metrics, determining, using a Bellman-Ford algorithm, a target interior gateway routing protocol route selection metric when the mismatch is detected, and transmitting the target interior gateway routing protocol route selection metric to at least one of the first and second routers.
