A method for forming a printed product is provided. The method includes the steps of providing a first section and a second section of the printed product with an identical array of stitching locations, each stitching location receiving a stitch or being punched through. A hole is punched in the first section at a first stitching location. A hole is punched in the second section at a second stitching location. The stitching location arrays of the first and second sections are aligned with each other. Stitching material of a first stitch is passed through the hole in the second section at the second stitching location and the first section is stitched with the first stitch at the second stitching location. A printing press is also provided.

The method includes printing the web using the first plate cylinder and first blanket cylinder so as to form at least one printed section of the web; sensing the print-to-cut register of the at least one printed section; and controlling the print-to-cut register of the first plate cylinder during printing via the first drive as a function of the sensing. The controlling includes pulling the first plate cylinder off impression and phasing the first plate cylinder with respect to the cross cutter using the independent drive. A method for controlling circumferential register and a printing press is also disclosed.

The imprint printing system allows imprinter head changes on the run. A printing roller, either an offset or a flexo printing roller, has an axial channel in which one or more imprinter heads are disposed. The imprinter heads can be selectively raised out of the channel so that the print surface projects radially above the periphery of the printing roller. In a variation of the basic concept, the imprinter heads are also axially movable along the axial channel. The individual heads can thereby be brought into a printing section defined by the location at which the product is to be imprinted. The respective imprinter head is raised for printing only in the printing section, while the other heads are withdrawn into the channel.

A printing press includes a combination printing blanket and blanket cylinder having a fill-in bar adapted to receive both ends of the printing blanket. The printing blanket and the fill-in bar are preattached, and, after wrapping the blanket around the cylinder, a barbed snap fit is achieved to fastened the blanket tightly around the cylinder.

A plate scanner-bending device having a plate bed for receiving a printing plate and a plate driver for moving the printing plate along the plate bed is disclosed. At least one scan sensor is located above the plate bed for scanning an image on the printing plate for density, along with at least one register sensor for sensing a register mark on the printing plate. An apparatus and method which allows a printing plate to be mounted onto a plate cylinder in a quick and efficient manner. The apparatus includes a lock-up mechanism which is removable from the plate cylinder, and which is preferably slidably received in an axial slot in the plate cylinder. The axial slot may include a mechanism for retaining the lock-up mechanism once it is inserted in the axial slot, and for tensioning the plate on the plate cylinder. The method of the invention includes a first step of removing the lock-up mechanism from the plate cylinder and unlocking the lock-up mechanism. A flat plate has both its ends bent approximately 90.degree., and then the plate is bent into a cylindrical shape. The bent ends of the plate, which after the cylindrical bending are approximately parallel to one another, are then inserted into the lock-up mechanism. The lock-up mechanism is thereafter locked, clamping the ends of the plate into the previously-bent cylindrical shape. Compressed air is forced through outlets on the plate cylinder while the plate/lock-up mechanism unit is inserted onto the plate cylinder. The compressed air causes the plate to slightly expand and also produces an air bearing between the plate cylinder and the plate, thereby easing insertion of the plate on the plate cylinder. The lock-up mechanism is slid into an axial slot on the plate cylinder. Thereafter, the lock-up mechanism is secured to the plate cylinder.

When the printing press is in operation the blanket and print cylinders (4, 6) may be additionally rotatably supported in a side plate (32) fitted to the opening (30), or may remain unsupported on their other ends.
