In one preferred embodiment, a patient moisture control support surface coverlet to draw moisture from a patient reposed thereon, the coverlet including: an outer layer of an air-tight, water-vapor-permeable material; an inner layer of an air- and vapor-impermeable material underlying the outer layer and sealed to the lower surface of the outer layer to define therebetween a volume to underlie a substantial portion of the patient; apparatus to introduce a flow of air to at least a portion of the volume; and apparatus to permit the flow of air to exit at least a portion of the volume.

In a preferred embodiment, an inflatable wheelchair cushion, the cushion including: a base member having a shape complementary to that of a sling-type wheelchair seat; a plurality of fluid-fillable cells rising from the base member, top surfaces of the cells, when the cells are filled with fluid to one or more desired pressures, defining a generally flat seating surface; and means to introduce pressurized fluid to the cells or zoned groups of the cells.

In a preferred embodiment, a lateral rotation therapy mattress system for a patient, including: a plurality of side-by-side longitudinal air cells, the air cells being divided into first and second side-by-side groups, wherein decreasing the pressure of pressurized air in the second group will cause the patient to rotate in the direction of the second group; and first and second pairs of solenoid valves connected to provide, respectively, the pressurized air to the first and second groups, wherein opening one of the solenoid valves in a the first and second pairs of solenoid valves will provide a desired low air pressure level and opening both of the solenoid valves in a the first and second pairs of solenoid valves will provide a desired high air pressure level, the low air pressure levels providing partial turn of the patient and the high pressure levels providing full turn of the patient.

Simplified control for lateral rotation therapy mattresses

In one preferred embodiment, an alternating pressure mattress system, including: a mattress including a plurality of narrow, parallel, closely-spaced, horizontally adjacent air sacks, every other one of the air sacks forming a first group of air sacks being commonly connected for the introduction thereinto of pressurized air and the others of the air sacks forming a second group of air sacks and being commonly connected for the introduction thereinto of pressurized air; apparatus to supply the pressurized air to the first and second groups of air sacks; control apparatus to alternatingly inflate and deflate the first and second groups of air sacks for selected periods of time; and the control apparatus providing for intervals of time at inflation/deflation transitions during which periods of time the pressurized air is being furnished to both the first and second groups of air sacks.

Alternating pressure mattress system and method

In a preferred embodiment, a lateral rotation therapy mattress system for a patient, including: a plurality of side-by-side longitudinal air cells; a single air chamber underlying the air cells in proximity thereto and interacting therewith to support the patient; and apparatus to supply pressurized air to the air cells and to the air chamber and to control the levels of pressure in individual ones of and/or groups of the air cells and the air chamber. The mattress may also function as a low loss air bed.

Lateral rotation therapy mattress system and method

In one aspect of the invention, a bed structure having a mattress deck panel and side panels, with internal reinforcing bulkheads and single-piece head- and footboards serving as reinforcing bulkheads at the head and foot of the structure. In another aspect of the invention, there is provided a low-cost air bed employing the above structure. In an additional aspect of the invention, there is provided an air bed which incorporates the air supply and control components within the bed structure itself. In a further aspect of the invention, there is provided a low-noise air flow control pinch valve. In yet another aspect of the invention, there is provided a single air bag which simulates multiple air bags through the use of welded internal baffles. In yet an additional aspect of the invention, there is provided a bed siderail which is patient-operable. In yet a further aspect of the invention, there is provided a device having the features of an air bed, which device is highly portable and which can be shipped by conventional mail or by parcel delivery services.
