Methods are provided for synthesizing ZSM-58 crystals with an improved morphology and/or an improved size distribution. By controlling the conditions during synthesis of the ZSM-58 crystals, crystals of a useful size with a narrow size distribution can be generated. Steaming the H-form DDR framework type crystals at a temperature from 426&#xb1;&#xb0; C. to 1100&#xb1;&#xb0; C. for a time period from about 30 minutes to about 48 hours can attain one or more of the following properties: a CH4 diffusivity of no more than 95% of the CH4 diffusivity of the unsteamed H-form DDR framework type crystals; an N2 BET surface area from 85% to 110% of the surface area of unsteamed H-form DDR framework type crystals; and an equilibrium CO2 sorption capacity from 80% to 105% of the equilibrium CO2 sorption capacity of unsteamed H-form DDR framework type crystals.

Synthesis of ZSM-58 crystals with improved diffusivity for use in gas separations

Methods are provided for removing COand/or HS from a gas phase stream, such as a refinery flue gas stream, a coal-fired or petroleum-burning power plant, or a natural gas stream. A gas phase stream containing COand/or HS can be contacted under effective conditions with an aqueous slurry of supported amine particles. The COand/or HS can react with the supported amines to form bicarbonates, carbonates, carbamates, sulfide salts, or other species. Because the amine is part of, bonded to, or otherwise supported on a particulate substrate, the reaction product from the amine reaction can also remain bound to the particle. After reacting supported amines with COand/or HS captured from a gas stream, the supported amines particles can be separated from the aqueous slurry environment for regeneration of the supported amine and release of the COand/or HS.

A cyclic process for selectively separating hydrogen sulfide from a gas mixture including COis operated by contacting the gas mixture under sorption conditions with a non-aqueous sorbent comprising a basic non-protogenic nitrogenous compound to react the HS with the basic compound so that the HS can be sorbed by the compound. The compound containing the sorbed HS can then be subjected to desorption conditions by which the HS is desorbed and the sorbent readied for another sorption step in the cycle. The basic nitrogenous compound can be carried on a porous solid sorbent, e.g., a solid oxide such as alumina, silica, silica-alumina, zeolites, or a mesoporous and/or macroporous solid oxide. The process may be operated using a pressure swing, temperature swing, partial pressure swing, purge displacement, or a combination thereof between the sorption and desorption portions of the cycle, preferably in a rapid cycle operation.

Selective sulfur removal process

Fischer-Tropsch hydrocarbon synthesis using a noncobalt catalyst is used to produce waxy fuel and lubricant oil hydrocarbons from synthesis gas derived from natural gas. The waxy hydrocarbons are hydrodewaxed, with reduced conversion to lower boiling hydrocarbons, by contacting the waxy hydrocarbons, in the presence of hydrogen, with an unsulfided hydrodewaxing catalyst that has been reduced and then treated by contacting it with a stream containing one or more oxygenates.

Oxygenate treatment of dewaxing catalyst for greater yield of dewaxed product

Extra heavy lube base stocks are separated from heavy lube oils with a polar solvent in an amount sufficient to form a first light phase and a second heavy phase. The phases are then separated and the solvent is removed from the second heavy phase to yield an extra heavy lube.

Production of extra-heavy lube oils from Fischer-Tropsch wax

The invention provides low metal content molecular sieve catalyst compositions, processes for making such catalysts, and processes for using such catalysts in the conversion of an oxygenate into one or more light olefins. Preferably, the catalyst composition comprises a matrix material having a low metal content. By utilizing matrix materials having low metal contents, the amount of metal-catalyzed side reaction byproducts formed in a reaction system, particularly in an oxygenate-to-olefin reaction system, can be advantageously reduced.

This invention relates to supported activators comprising the product of the combination of an ion-exchange layered silicate, an organoaluminum compound, and a heterocyclic compound, which may be substituted or unsubstituted. This invention further relates to catalyst systems comprising catalyst compounds and such activators, as well as processes to polymerize unsaturated monomers using the supported activators. For the purposes of this patent specification and the claims thereto, the term 'activator' is used interchangeably with the term 'co-catalyst', the term &#x201c;catalyst&#x201d; refers to a metal compound that when combined with an activator polymerizes olefins, and the term &#x201c;catalyst system&#x201d; refers to the combination of a catalyst and an activator with or without a support. The terms &#x201c;support&#x201d; or &#x201c;carrier&#x201d;, for purposes of this patent specification, are used interchangeably and are any ion-exchange layered silicates.

Supported activator

Fischer-Tropsch hydrocarbon synthesis using a cobalt catalyst is used to produce waxy fuel and lubricant oil hydrocarbons from synthesis gas derived from natural gas. The waxy hydrocarbons are hydrodewaxed, with reduced conversion to lower boiling hydrocarbons, by contacting the waxy hydrocarbons, in the presence of hydrogen, with an unsulfided 10-ring, 1-dimensional zeolite catalyst that has been reduced and then treated by contacting it with the synthesized hydrocarbons containing one or more oxygenates, including indigenous oxygenate. Tail gas from the hydrodewaxing reactor can be used for the hydrocarbon synthesis.

Dewaxed fuel and lubricant base stocks are made by (a) producing a synthesis gas from natural gas, (b) reacting the Hand CO in the gas in the presence of a cobalt Fischer-Tropsch catalyst, at reaction conditions effective to synthesize a waxy hydrocarbon feed boiling in the fuel and lubricant oil ranges, which is hydrodewaxed in a first stage to produce a dewaxed fuel and a partially dewaxed lubricant fraction. The partially dewaxed lubricant fraction is separated into heavy and lower boiling fractions each of which is separately hydrodewaxed, to produce lubricant base stocks. A hydrodewaxing catalyst comprising a hydrogenation component, binder and solid acid component used to hydrodewax at least one, and preferably at least two of the waxy feed and partially dewaxed heavy and lower boiling lubricant fractions.

Production of fuels and lube oils from fischer-tropsch wax

Synthetic isoparaffinic premium heavy lubricant base stock

A wide cut Fischer-Tropsch derived diesel fuel is produced wherein the distillate boils in a wider range than a conventional diesel fuel while providing favorable low temperature properties and environmentally beneficial effects. In particular, the fuel comprises a hydrocarbon distillate derived from the Fischer-Tropsch process having T90 greater than 640&deg; F. (338&deg; C.) but less than 1000&deg; F. (538&deg; C.) and a cold filter plugging point less than or equal to &plus;5&deg; C.

Wide cut Fischer Tropsch diesel fuels

A process for the production of a winter diesel fuel from wax containing hydrocarbons produced by the Fischer-Tropsch hydrocarbon synthesis process. A 300&deg; F.&plus; Fischer-Tropsch fraction is upgraded first by hydroisomerization followed by catalytic dewaxing resulting in a diesel fuel suitable for use as a winter diesel fuel having excellent cold flow properties and reduced emissions.
