Processes for preparing a polymer polyol (PMPO) in which a base polyol is continuously produced in a continuous base polyol reactor, the base polyol is continuously discharged from the continuous base polyol reactor; the base polyol is continuously introduced to a continuous PMPO reactor, which is different from the continuous base polyol reactor, and PMPO is continuously removed from the PMPO reactor. Production plant configured to carry out such processes are also described.

A flexibilizing capped prepolymer can include a reaction product of reaction mixture including a polyisocyanate and an isocyanate-reactive component at an equivalent ratio of polyisocyanate equivalents to isocyanate-reactive component equivalents of from 1.4:1 to 2.1:1. The isocyanate-reactive component can include a polyol component and a branching agent component. The branching agent component can include a monoglyceride, a diglyceride, a triglyceride, or a combination thereof having a number average functionality of from 3 to 6 NCO-reactive functional groups. The reaction product is terminated with a capping agent to form the flexibilizing capped prepolymer.

The present invention provides long chain, active polyether polyols which are characterized by a functionality of 2 to 6 and an equivalent weight of 1000 to 2200 Da. These long chain polyethers comprise the alkoxylation product of (1) a starter composition having an equivalent weight of 350 Da or less, with (2) one or more alkylene oxides, in which up to 20% of ethylene oxide may be added as a cap, in the presence of (3) at least one basic catalyst. Suitable starter compositions (1) comprise the alkoxylation product of (a) a low molecular weight polyether having a functionality of 3 and an equivalent weight of less than 350 Da, (b) at least one low molecular weight starter compound comprising glycerin, and (c) propylene oxide or a mixture of propylene oxide and ethylene oxide, in the presence of (d) at least one double metal cyanide catalyst.
