A coating composition and method are disclosed for reducing vibration and noise when applied to a structure such as in transportation and industrial equipment systems. The coating composition of the present invention includes a viscoelastic material with discrete stiff fibers suspended therewithin. The viscoelastic material is preferably selected from acrylics, silicones and polyurethanes, and the discrete fibers are preferably carbon fibers. The manipulation of the fiber volume fraction within the viscoelastic material, the dimension of the fibers, the orientation of the fibers within the composition and the fiber and viscoelastic material selections results in coating materials that enhance the reduction of vibration and noise

A process for recovering petroleum from relatively impermeable formations. A permeable structure is formed to extend radially outward from the well bore and vapor, including solvent vapor, is introduced in a manner to condense primarily adjacent petroleum-containing portions of the formation, thereby forming a mixture of solvent and petroleum sufficiently mobile to flow downwardly and inwardly to a lower portion of the well bore leaving in place a leached volume of solids from which most of the petroleum has been removed.

A process for the in-situ recovery of minerals from subsurface deposits comprises forming a gas-tight or self-sealing chamber and injecting into it a solvent which is pressure cycled over a predetermined period of time. This pressure cycling increases the mineral extraction efficiency by improving the dissolution of material contained in blind cracks in the underground formation.

In a process for the recovery of resources from underground geological structures, the process is improved by fracturing the walls of the underground structure and large boulders or rocks by inducing thermal gradients in the deposits. When the heating program has been established from tests on the core sample, it is then applied to the underground formation.
