A slide-in structural interface between a Sea Water Intake Riser (SWIR) and a floating unit hull or sump tank bottom plate permits a pull-in, diver-less installation of the SWIR. Certain embodiments include an integrated, easily maintainable strainer.

In a pipe joint where two pipe sections () have threadably engaged end portions (), joint ends () are substantially sealed to each other by a sealing surface () on one pipe section that substantially abuts a sealing surface () on the other pipe section. In one joint, a ring-shaped cutout (, FIG.) is formed in a first pipe section and a ring-shaped spacer () is located in the cutout. The spacer is chosen from several that have slightly different lengths so the spacer end contacts the corresponding sealing surface (). In a pipe string used to carry corrosive fluid, the inner surface () of adjacent pipe sections is covered with a corrosion resistant coating (). Where the sealing surface is connected to a rounded corner (), the coating extends to and along the sealing surfaces (). Where there are sharp corners () at the intersection of the inside surface () with the sealing surface (B,B), the coating does not extend along the sealing surfaces.

Methods that may be employed to help to equalize the length of the teeth on a pin-and-box SCR connector during make-up include locating the make-up groove on the box at the far box end away from the pipe end. This causes the make-up force to tension and stretch the box to make it longer. Additionally or alternatively placing grease or other fluid in the nib groove creates a resistance force to nib entry. The grease or fluid exits through a nib vent port in the box while creating a resistance that compresses the pin and stretches the box causing the tooth spacing of the pin and the box to be similar. Providing a ring groove at both ends of the box allows a tensioning device to be used to tension the box causing box elongation, which equalizes the tooth length of pin and box members during connector make up.

A Taut-Inverted-Catenary (TIC) mooring system may be implemented using only field-proven components. The mooring lines yield a positive uplift force on the anchors in all conditions. In the inverted-catenary configuration, geometric stiffness is provided by a subsurface spring buoy or distributed buoyancy elements on the line. The TIC system consists as much as possible of light-weight components, such as polyester fiber rope. Since the uplift force on the anchor is always positive, clearance between polyester rope and the seabed is provided. All geometric stiffness is provided by the spring buoy. Therefore, a ground chain between the seafloor anchor and the fiber rope is not necessary.

A method and apparatus for bundling flexible risers uses a vertically-hanging riser support shaft extending below the turret of a turret-moored FPSO to manage the motions of the risers. The risers may transition to a catenary configuration as they exit a bottom structure at the lower end of the riser support shaft and connect to wellheads or flowlines on the seafloor. Certain embodiments are suitable for use with a disconnectable buoyant turret mooring system while other embodiments may be used with spread-moored FPSOs.

A mooring system for offshore vessels uses a chain stopper within a preset mooring line. The chain stopper has means for attaching a removable hydraulic chain jack actuator which may be used to stroke the chain through the stopper assembly while both the stopper and the mooring line remain under load.

In-line mooring connector and tensioner

A pipeline includes a pair of pipe sections with ends (), connected together by threads. the pipe ends having axial and radial abutments lying beyond the ends of the thread. The abutments are located to stabilize a nib sealing arrangement and to enhance the capacity to resist bending while using a shorter thread length. The shorter threads () enable pipe ends of smaller wall thicknesses to be used. At the abutments, each pipe end has a nib (A,B) that is deflected to enter a groove as the pipe ends mate.

Tension leg connection system and method of installing

A composite hose includes a tubular body of flexible material for transferring cryogenic fluid through the hose and for preventing fluid leakage through the body. The tubular body includes an inner wire helix spirally wound along the length of the hose, an outer wire helix spirally wound along the length of the hose, at least two reinforcing layers placed in between the inner and outer wire, at least one sealing layer placed between two reinforcing layers, an end fitting at both ends of the tubular body, each end fitting provided with a part for connection to another hose flange and an elongated cylindrical part, which is divided in an anchoring area for anchoring the tubular body and a static sealing area for fluid tight sealing of the hose. A gas tight sealing is created by bonding the at least one sealing layer to the cylindrical part over a ring shaped bonding area.

A pressure regulation system for a high pressure swivel comprises an annular inner wall and an annular outer wall, mutually rotatable around an axis, defining a toroidal chamber, and a gap extending axially between the walls from the chamber to an outer part. Positioned in the gap are an isolation seal, an isolation gap section, a primary seal, a primary gap section and a secondary seal. A first pressure control unit is connected to the chamber and to a pressurization device coupled to the isolation gap section for supplying fluid to the isolation gap section from the pressurization device.

A system wherein cold water from near the sea floor is pumped through a primarily vertical pipe () to a body () floating at the sea surface so energy can be obtained from water temperature differences. A pump () located at the bottom of the pipe, is part of a pump module () that can be inserted and removed horizontally through a slot () in a bottom structure () lying at the bottom of the pipe. The top of the pipe is sealed to a movable pipe connector, by a U-shaped elastomeric seal (). The pipe can include a short top pipe section () and a long bottom pipe section () of smaller diameter (D), whose upper portion can be pulled up through the top pipe section when the top pipe section is damaged.

Ocean energy conversion

A method for installing risers so they extend from a FPU (floating production unit) to multiple subsea hydrocarbon wells of an oil field, which avoids damage to the pipe sections and that is economical. As pipe sections are connected to a near end () of a pipe string portion (B-D) that lies at the FPU, a tug boat () pulls the far end () of the pipe string toward a well head. Initially, a long pull line () extends from a winch () on the tug boat, in a double catenary curve to the far end of the pipe string. The winch is operated to shorten the pull line until the pipe string extends in a double catenary curve (). Tension in the pipe string is maintained at a proper level during installation by maintaining the near end portion of the pipe string so it extends at a near end angle () to the vertical that continually lies within a predetermined range, such as from 3&#xb0; to 12&#xb0;.
