A sandwich type composite adhesive construction in a simpler form, composed of a central release liner having a permanent adhesive layer on one side thereof and a pressure sensitive adhesive layer on the other side preferably separated therefrom by a release coat or member, and at least one release member on said adhesive layers but in a more complex form containing additional carrier layers or strengthening members including at least one or more support layers between two layers of permanent pressure sensitive adhesive. This adhesive construction provides a product, such as a pipe insulation that has unique properties and is cost effective. This strip-type composite adhesive construction can be made by applying a barrier layer coat to one or more surfaces of the insulation, either to the surfaces of the slit, or to the peripheral surfaces of the insulation adjacent the slit, or to portions of the adjacent surfaces of the insulation adjacent to the slit, or to the entire exterior surface, depending upon the needs of the user.

This invention supplies an adhesive construction for insulation, preferably pipe insulation, having at least one coat of adhesive on at least a part of a face of the slit with a release member to keep the adhesive from adhering to the second face and a method of making the same article.

Method of making an adhesive construction

This invention provides tamper-safety labeling that can easily be applied to a container and closure means to disclose the opening of the container. This labeling is a single piece one that has a generally parallel perforated tear strip and tab formed from the face stock and that allows the tear strip and usually perforated member to be formed and laminated to a release liner having a release thereon at least commensurate with adhesive positioned in the laminate on each side of the tear strip in the face stock. Also, the tear strip may run at any angle from the horizontal plane of the container to permit the tear strip to be removed to present different arrangements of the labeling on the container and may become a product or origin identification for the container. An important aspect of the invention is that the label will normally include two separate areas of pressure sensitive adhesive, each having good adhesion characteristics to the container and closure means respectively, and normally no adhesive on the tear strip.

An improved shelf life composition useful as adhesives and, especially, pressure sensitive adhesives is made by mixing an acrylic composition with a catalyst of the tin type and a non-reactive silicone composition essentially free of hydroxyl and hydrogens on the silicon atoms and of the formula shown hereinafter.

This invention relates to a hinge type pressure sensitive resealable closure system for a container. The invention comprises an essentially flat strip of suitable material that is permanently adhered at one surface to the container, such adherence normally by a permanent pressure sensitive adhesive, but it could be heat sealed or otherwise attached to the container in a permanent manner. Another surface of the strip is adapted by virtue of a removable pressure sensitive adhesive to be repeatedly removably attached to the container with the respective permanent and removable attachments closing the container in a repeatable resealable mode. The strip can include printing thereon, and other suitable surfaces could include more removable pressure sensitive adhesive for various more sophisticated closure techniques. The strip is provided with a hinge mechanism between the two surfaces thereby allowing the two surfaces to move relative to each other to be in different planes, thus allowing the strip to go around corners or be folded back on itself to effect different types of closure techniques for various containers.

Method of making an adhesive construction for articles and said articles

A seal splice or tape comprising a carrier having an adhesive construction on the opposite side thereof. The adhesive construction comprises an adhesive coating on the carrier layer with a release agent and liner thereover. The adhesive coat extending from end to end on one side and only part way inboard on the opposite side. In a preferred embodiment, the carrier is scored near the end having adhesive on both ends to permit both layers of the liner to be removed essentially simultaneously or otherwise.

A composite pressure sensitive adhesive construction has an adhesive portion located laterally on each side of a carrier. The central portion of the carrier is free from adhesive. A split release liner covers each adhesive portion. In use, the adhesive construction can be applied to any article, for example an insulation tube, and especially articles having a split or opening so that the article can be secured in a closed position. Moreover, the adhesive construction can have one laterally adhesive portion applied to the article, with the remaining adhesive portion having the release liner thereon which is readily removed and the remaining adhesive portion securely engaged to the article.

For example, the pressure sensitive adhesive construction may be utilized in sealing pipe insulating jackets wherein the exterior release liners are removed and the adhesive construction is applied to the opposite longitudinal ends or sides of the insulating jacket cover. The insulating jacket may then be stored until utilized whereupon the central release liner is removed, the jacket inserted about the pipe, and a sealing connection then made by pressing the two exposed adhesive layers together. Alternatively, the adhesive may be applied through rolling, spraying, or painting directly to both opposite longitudinal ends or sides of the jacket cover, the two applied adhesive layers being separated by the interposition of the central release liner during storage.
