Embodiments of the invention provide a method, system and apparatus for detecting a merchandise marker in which a first antenna has a circuit having a first loop defining a first area and a second loop defining a second area substantially coplanar with the first area. A second antenna is substantially coplanar and orthogonally positioned with respect to the first antenna. The second antenna has a circuit having a third loop defining a third area and a fourth loop defining a fourth area substantially coplanar with the third area.

Merchandise surveillance system antenna and method

A system for controlling door-mounted or door-embedded antennas. An antenna, for example, an EAS or an RF antenna, sends interrogation signals which are received by markers located on merchandise within a range of detection, i.e., an 'interrogation zone'. Antennas that are mounted on or embedded in a door move along with the motion of the door. Thus, the interrogation zone covered by the antenna's magnetic field is continually changing with the movement of the door. The system and method of the present invention control door-mounted antennas by monitoring the motion of the door upon which the antenna is mounted, and by adjusting the size and breadth of the interrogation zone generated by the antenna accordingly. A processor within a control unit receives positional signals from a position sensor mounted on the moving door, determines whether the interrogation zone should be increased, decreased, shut off, or maintained, and transmits signals to the antenna or to an alarm device, the signal containing interrogation zone modification instructions.

Control for embedded and door-mounted antennas

A system and method for controlling door-mounted or door-embedded antennas. An EAS system in which first and second received signals are independently front-end processed to produce third and fourth signals indicative of the absolute values of the first and second processed signals. The third and fourth signals are then combined and the combined signal passed to a tag evaluation processor for time and frequency domain processing for evaluating whether a tag is present in an interrogation zone. The front-end processing is carried out in such a way that interference signal content including shield interference is extracted without extracting tag signal content in the received signals over a period of time. In this way, the first and second transmitter antennas of the system can be driven with drive signals having a phase difference of other than 0.degree. or 180.degree. and the tag evaluation processing can be carried out during the entire period of the drive signals.

EAS system with improved processing of antenna signals

An electronic vehicle security system includes a valet switch and status indicator light combined into a single unit. The system includes a central controller having a plurality of sensors connected thereto. The sensors are located throughout the vehicle and generate signals to the controller when an intrusion attempt into the vehicle is detected. In response to these signals, the controller automatically activates an alarm device or an anti-theft device to deter the intruder from entering into or operating the vehicle. The system further includes a combined valet switch and status indicator light assembly. The assembly is adapted to be mounted on the dash panel of the vehicle and is connected through a single wiring harness to the central controller.
