A clamping device for frictional clamping of a workpiece which includes a clamp element adapted to frictionally clamp a workpiece and a mechanism for moving the clamp element which includes a shape memory alloy adapted to move the clamp element when the shape memory alloy is heated. The shape memory alloy moves the clamp element into a clamped state and/or unclamped state upon heating the shape memory alloy. The clamped element is preferably a super elastic alloy which is naturally oriented in a clamped position for a positive clamp and in an unclamped position for a non-positive clamp.

A hoist device for fixed engagement to a threaded bore on an outer surface of a load member is provided. The hoist device comprises a load engaging stud with a force supporting head, a cylindrical body portion with a lower annular bearing shoulder and a threaded shank depending from the annular shoulder of the body portion. A base member having a body portion with a central passage through the base member and allowing a free swivel engagement of the base member with the load engaging stud is provided. The central passage of the base member, having an upper recess for capturing the force supporting head and an upper annular shoulder for transmitting a force from the base member to the supporting head when the base member is pulled from the load member is also provided. A hoist ring is secured between the support member and the base member while allowing the base member to swivel around the stud. A slot in one of the members captures the hoist ring while allowing the hoist ring to pivot in the slot. The stud includes a tool driving portion and a force supporting head, the tool driving portion includes the tool engaging portion and the stud and access openings in one of the members registered with the tool engaging portion when one of the members and the stud are in a given relative angular position. In such position, an elongated tool can be extended through the opening into the tool engaging portion to rotate the stud and members in unison until the lower shoulder engages the surface of the load member.

A hoist device designed to fixedly engage a threaded bore on the outer surface of a load number as a die. The hoist device includes a low engaging stud having a threaded shank depending from an annular shoulder of the body portion of the stud, a base member having a body portion which supports the low engaging stud and allows for a free swivel engagement of the base member with the stud when the stud is fixed to the load member, a hoist ring which is pivotly connected to the base member.

An apparatus for mounting and locking a keylocking insert in a threaded opening in a parent material includes a driver adapted for sequential mutual and relative rotation with the insert, drive means for rotationally driving the driver in response to a force applied thereto, and a press for operating the keys into a locking position. The driver has a threaded stud for threadably engaging interior threads of the insert to mount the insert in the parent material by threadably engaging the insert exterior thread with the threaded opening and advancing the external thread into the threaded opening in response to the mutual rotation of the driver. The press has a first end surface for engaging the keys of the insert and longitudinally moving toward the insert to operate the keys to the locking position in response to the relative rotation of the driver. The insert is thereby both mounted and locked by rotation of the driver.

Load ring assemblies are disclosed which can be releasably connected to a load and provide a load ring mounted for pivotal movement so that the load ring can align itself with a connecting force applied thereto. The assembly includes a mounting member formed with a central flange intermediate its ends and cylindrical extensions extending in both directions therefrom. A pivot collar or ring is journaled on one extension for pivotal movement about the longitudinal axis of the mounting member. A U-bar or load ring is pivoted on the collar for pivotal movement about a second axis perpendicularly intersecting the first axis. Therefore, the load ring is free to pivot relative to the mounting member into alignment with a force applied thereto. The other extension is provided with a locking system having a plurality of peripherally located locking elements which are radially movable between an extended locking position and a retracted release position. In the extended position, the locking elements operate to engage a mating receptacle and lock the mounting member and the entire assembly in a load in which the receptacle is mounted. In the retracted position, the load ring assembly is freely removable from or insertable into the receptacle. The radial position of the locking elements is controlled by a threaded bolt accessible from the free end of the assembly which is operable to positively lock the locking elements in the extended and locked position and which can be retracted to allow movement of the locking elements to the retracted position.

A self-locking, fluid-operated, tool clamping device is disclosed. The device provides a double-acting piston formed with a camming surface intermediate its ends. The camming surface is formed with a locking angle with respect to the axis of the piston. A cylindrical clamping pin is guided within the device for movement in a direction perpendicular to the camming surface and is provided with an end surface perpendicular to such direction of movement which engages the camming surface. An output lever pivotably mounted on the device engages the clamping pin at one end and is operable to engage tooling at its other end to clamp the tooling in position. The clamping pin is cylindrical and is free to rotate about its axis so as to reduce localized wear when the device is repeatedly cycled. A spring operably positioned between the lever and the body of the device resiliently biases the lever and the clamping pin toward the release position.

Self-locking clamping device

A self-locking hydraulic clamping device includes a hydraulic piston which is notched on one side to form a compound camming surface which drivingly engages a spring-loaded clamping pin moving in a bore normal to the bore in which the hydraulic piston moves, the latter bore preferably extending parallel to the side of the workpiece being clamped.
