An instrument can include a shaft with a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, an end effector at the distal end portion of the shaft, and a transmission mechanism at the proximal end portion of the shaft. The transmission mechanism can include a driven input device engageable with an external drive mechanism. The instrument can include an indicator operably coupled to the driven input device and moveable through each of a plurality of consecutive positions, each of the plurality of consecutive positions being associated with a unique indicium of a non-zero number of available uses left of the instrument. In response to the driven input device being driven, the indicator moves from a current position of the plurality of positions to a subsequent position of the plurality of positions. The instrument can also include a device configured to record occurrence of a change in an environmental condition to which the instrument is subjected.

A dispensing device configured to operate with an adhesive backed mesh and backing film for tissue bonding is disclosed. The dispensing device provides for low-friction, low force pay-out of a desired length of an adhesive backed mesh to a wound site. The device prevents or eliminates distortion of the mesh prior to application to the wound site, and includes means for reducing or eliminating binding during use. The dispensing device is configured to operate in a 'forward' mode (substrate to which mesh is applied passes beneath applicator after mesh is applied) to provide essentially an unobstructed view of the wound site during use.

In a vapor delivery device, a carrier or an expedient for an active ingredient is a liquid that can be vaporized by exposure to a concentrated, focused heating point using an efficient electrical power source. The device may have a vaporizing element and an electrical power source in a housing. A switch controls supply of electrical power to the vaporizing element from the electrical power source. A tube connects a liquid reservoir to the vaporizing element. A first valve, a second valve, and a pump are generally associated with the tube. A lever pivotally supported on or in the housing may be positioned to operate the first valve, the second valve, the pump and the switch, via pivoting movement of the lever. The device efficiently provides a uniform dose of vapor with each actuation.

Vapor delivery devices and methods

An applicator/dispenser assembly for dispensing and/or applying an adhesive material comprises: a first body portion and a second body portion, at least one of the first and second body portions being movable relative to the other of the first and second body portions; a cavity in at least one of the first and second body portions; and a piercing or breaking member arranged on one of the first and second body portions. Movement of one of the first and second body portions relative to the other of the first and second body portions moves the piercing or breaking member into the cavity. When a container of adhesive material is at least partially disposed within the cavity, movement of one of the first and second body portions relative to the other moves the piercing or breaking member to rupture the container for dispensing and/or applying the adhesive material.

Applicators, dispensers and methods for dispensing and applying adhesive material

This invention generally relates to a method of dispensing an adhesive material using an applicator comprising: a body having a cavity; at least one breaking member integral with the body and having a surrounding gap, the breaking member deflectable into the cavity and having a first engagement member; an annular housing movable with respect to the body and having a second engagement member complementary with the first engagement member, the first and the second engagement members being cooperatively engageable; a reservoir secured to body and having applicator means; a retaining member between the body and reservoir; and a frangible container of adhesive material disposed within the cavity; moving the annular housing relative to the body from a first position to a second position where the engagement members are cooperatively engaged; deflecting the breaking members and breaking the frangible container; and squeezing the reservoir and dispensing adhesive material.

An applicator device for dispensing a polymerizable adhesive material comprising a body portion comprising a closed proximal end and an open distal end providing a cavity sized to accept a frangible container having a polymerizable adhesive material; at least one breaking member at least partially deflectable into the cavity; an annular housing movable with respect to the body portion; and a reservoir secured to the open distal end of the body portion, the reservoir further comprising an applicator; wherein the annular housing is movable relative to the body portion from a first position to a second position to deflect at least a portion of the breaking member into the cavity.

Dispenser with a frangible container and a rotating breaking member, for dispensing a polymerizable monomer adhesive

A device for holding a surgical suture including a base, a guide body, a cam body, a bearing member, and a spring member. The base has a top side, a front edge, and a back edge. The guide body projects from the top side of the base and defines a guide face having an entrance side and an exit side. The entrance side is adjacent the front edge and the exit side is adjacent the back edge. The cam body is pivotally mounted to the top side and forms a toothed surface positioned to selectively secure a surgical suture against the guide face. The spring member is positioned between the cam body and the bearing member, biasing the toothed surface toward the guide face.
