A method and apparatus for testing a specimen with pressure, applying a torque using one or more plates coupled to the test specimen, applying a bending moment, and/or applying an axial load, either separately or simultaneously, with or without rotating the specimen, and without the applied forces interfering with each other.

Torque and combined load fixture and test method

A method and apparatus for rotating a test specimen and simultaneously applying a torque, bending moment, and an axial load without the applied forces interfering with each other.

Method and apparatus are disclosed for use in cementing a tubular member which is run into a borehole using a drill string. A landing collar is attached to the tubular member near the bottom of the tubular member, and the landing collar has an opening at least five inches in diameter. A liner wiper assembly is releasably suspended from the drill string. The liner wiper assembly comprises a lower liner wiper plug comprising float valves and an upper liner wiper plug. With the method and apparatus of the present invention, plugging problems are minimized.

Pumpdown valve plug assembly for liner cementing system

Slip assemblies are provided for gripping drill pipe or other tubulars such that the load is distributed along the length of the dies of the slip segments rather than being concentrated at the lowermost dies within the slip segments. The load is distributed by the fact of using a load ring around the interior surface of each slip segment to allow the load ring to absorb part of the loading rather than have all of the load supported by the lowermost slip dies. In addition, resilient members are provided at the top surface of the uppermost die and also at the top surface of the die immediately underneath the load ring to better distribute the loading between the various slip dies and also to lessen the possibility of having gaps develop between the dies of the slip segments.

Slips for drill pipe or other tubular goods

A system for reducing pressure while running a casing liner, hanging a casing liner from a casing and cementing the liner in a borehole during a single trip downhole is disclosed. Some of the components of the system are 1.) a bypass or diverter sub for reducing surge pressure having either an incremental breakaway seat or a yieldable seat, 2.) a container or manifold for launching a smaller ball used to close the bypass, a larger ball used to hang the liner in the casing, and a drill pipe wiper dart for cementing, and 3.) a guide shoe with multiple openings and no float valve to provide proper flow of drilling fluid up the liner and out the port of the bypass to reduce surge pressure and to provide for proper cementation. Advantageously, methods for operation of this surge pressure reduction system and its components are also disclosed.

Downhole surge pressure reduction system and method of use

An apparatus for the simultaneous dispensing of fluids from multiple containers in a pre-determined ratio. The apparatus has a pump, at least two fluid containers, a fluid transfer device including dip tubes to transfer fluid from the containers to the pump, a venting system that prevents the creation of pressure differentials between the containers, and a device to open and close the dip tubes so leakage from the containers can be prevented.

Assembly for simultaneous dispensing of multiple fluids

The casing suspension system includes a hanger having a load transfer mechanism and a finding/latching mechanism for finding, latching, and transferring load to an outer casing. The load transfer mechanism includes a ring disposed within a reduced diameter portion around the hanger. The ring includes a plurality of load bearing elements extending downwardly with the load bearing elements having a plurality of external teeth. The load bearing elements include an upwardly facing convex annular shoulder which engages a mating downwardly facing concave annular shoulder on the hanger. A spring retainer is disposed around the lower end of the load bearing elements to bias the load bearing elements inwardly. The hanger also includes a spring tube disposed below the load transfer ring. The spring tube includes a plurality of integral gates having keys. As the hanger is lowered into the well, the spring retainer maintains the load bearing elements in the 'in' position. Once the keys on the spring tube engage a profile in the outer casing, the load transfer ring moves downwardly with respect to the spring tube causing the spring tube to wedge the load bearing elements in the 'out' position into engagement with the outer casing.

Casing suspension system

A clamp for forming a seal on a pipeline section, the clamp comprising a pair of complementary clamp members to be clamped together, each clamp member having an inner surface with a pair of axially spaced, circumferentially extending circumferential seals, and one clamp member having a pair of circumferentially spaced longitudinal seals which extend axially to bridge the gaps between the opposed circumferential ends of the pair of circumferential seals to define four junction zones where the circumferential seals and the longitudinal seals abut, and retention means at each junction zone to connect the circumferential and longitudinal seals together in the retention zones, and at the same time connect the seals to the clamp member at the junction zones. The clamp includes corner seals to provide backup sealing from the junction zones. The clamp includes heat protection grooves to protect certain of the clamp seals. The clamp may include a pipe branch to provide a hot tapping facility. Embodiments of the clamp have an optimized body design to provide for weight minimization.

A tubular pin member is received within a tubular box member. The pin member includes a reduced diameter portion forming a shoulder having an annular groove in the shoulder. A metal seal ring of aluminum bronze is shrink fitted onto the outer diameter wall of the annular groove. The tubular box member and the tubular pin member have cooperable connection means connecting the tubular members. The metal seal ring sealingly engages the box thereby establishing a metal-to-metal seal between the tubular members. Pressure in the flow bore of the tubular members applies a force to the inner diameter of the metal seal ring to enhance the metal-to-metal sealing engagement between the seal ring and the outer diameter wall and the box.

A coupling for forming a sealed engagement with a tubular member, the coupling comprising an annular housing having an engagement zone for receiving a tubular member to be engaged by the coupling, and comprising an engagement assembly positioned within the engagement zone. The engagement assembly comprises an annular gasket for sealing engagement with a tubular member upon axial compression of the engagement assembly. The annular gasket has a plurality of circumferentially spaced bores. A plurality of bolts for axial compression of the engagement assembly, are positioned to extend through the bores. The engagement assembly includes at least one washer for applying axial pressure to the annular gasket during axial compression of the engagement assembly. The engagement assembly further includes a gripping ring to be radially compressed upon axial compression of the engagement assembly to grip a tubular member when positioned in the engagement zone. The engagement assembly further includes wedge surfaces to cooperate with the gripping ring to resiliently compress the gripping ring into engagement with a tubular member. An axial compression limiting member is provided in the form of a shoulder or flange, or separate spacing ring to limit the axial compression of the engagement assembly and thereby determine the ultimate degree of radial displacement of the gripping ring.

Coupling for coupling tubular members

A coupling for forming a sealed engagement with a tubular member, the coupling comprising an annular housing having an engagement zone for receiving a tubular member to be engaged by the coupling, and comprising an engagement assembly positioned within the engagement zone. The engagement assembly comprises an annular gasket for sealing engagement with a tubular member upon axial compression of the engagement assembly. The annular gasket has a plurality of circumferentially spaced bores. A plurality of bolts for axial compression of the engagement assembly, are positioned to extend through the bores. The engagement assembly includes at least one washer for applying axial pressure to the annular gasket during axial compression of the engagement assembly. The engagement assembly further includes a gripping ring to be radially compressed upon axial compression of the engagement assembly to grip a tubular member when positioned in the engagement zone. The engagement assembly further includes wedge surfaces to cooperate with the gripping ring to resiliently compress the gripping ring into engagement with a tubular member.

A swivel coupling element for use in sealingly coupling a tubular element to an annular coupling flange. The swivel coupling element includes an annular mounting flange having a leading end which defines a seating face for seating on the seating face of such an annular coupling flange, the annular mounting flange being shaped to define a segmental spherical surface which is on the trailing side of the leading end of the annular mounting flange, a tubular member having a trailing end for connection to a tubular element, and having a leading end pivotally positioned in the bore of the mounting flange, the leading end having a convex segmental spherical outer surface which is complementary to the concave segmental spherical surface of the mounting flange to cooperate therewith, and an annular retainer flange which is located on the tubular member and which is displaceable relatively to the mounting flange between an unlocked position where the tubular member is free to pivot or swivel relatively to the mounting flange, and a locked position where the leading end of the tubular member is fixed in the bore of the mounting flange.
