A locking device for a tool, such as a ratchet wrench, having a jointed drive head which may be situated in a series of angular positions relative to a handle, and which has means for temporarily holding the drive head of the tool at a predetermined angle with respect to the handle. The tool includes a spring-biased locking element disposed in the handle and which may be either engaged with, withdrawn from, or disengaged from the drive head. In the engaged position, the tool drive head is locked in place by the locking element. In the withdrawn position, the locking element is withdrawn from the head, and held away from it by the user to permit continuous changes in the angular relationship between the handle and the drive head. Finally, in the third orientation, the locking element is withdraw from the head and secured in a temporary holding position, allowing continual changes in the angular relationship between the handle and the head without the need for the user to continually hold the locking element.

A socket wrench assembly having a drive handle and interchangeable, varible-sized socket drive heads. The drive heads have a round, flat configuration. A conventional rotatable square drive extends from one side and is operatively connected to an internal ratcheting mechansim. The drive head has a square bore formed in the edge. The handle has a spring biased locking mechanism to releasably secure the handle in the bore. The drive head can function as a palm ratchet without the handle attached.

An articulating adapter for use with a set of socket wrenches for connecting a socket to a socket drive. The adapter includes a first drive section having a square drive at one end and a skirt section at the other end. The skirt defines a cavity. There is a bias spring seated in the cavity and held in place by a pivot pin which extend across the mouth of the skirt section. The adapter includes a second drive section within the skirt of the first drive section. The second drive section has a square drive at one end and a substantially round base at opposite end. The round base is pivotally seated in the skirt cavity. The round base has a substantially oblong bore therethrough. The pivot pin extends through the bore to allow the second drive section to articulate approximately 360.degree. within the skirt. The pivot pin, however, drives the adapter by engaging the sides of the bore when rotated. The square drive on the first drive section and the square drive on the second drive section are of different sizes so that the adapter can be used to step up from a smaller socket wrench drive or step down from a larger socket wrench drive. The square drives include spring-biased detents to secure a socket of adapter onto the square drive.

A socket wrench and ratchet attachment, including a wrench housing, a wrench handle that threadedly engages within the housing, the housing having an opening therein, into which a socket wrench or ratchet may snugly insert, and be bound into position for usage, upon turning of the handle into an engaging position. The handle has a series of stepped down extensions, that matingly fit within a bore and counterbore formed within the wrench housing, to provide for there mating engagement, when locking a socket wrench or ratchet into a position of utility.

An adjustable hand tool comprising an integral multi-sized socket tool, including a drive handle, and a multi-tiered drive mountable to said drive handle, said multi-tiered drives providing either a series of tiers of drives all extending concentrically from one end of the drive, or said drives being provided to either end of the tool, and capable of being shifted within the drive to provide for a drive of one dimension upon one of its ends, and a drive of a different dimension upon the opposite end, and said tiered drives being shiftable within the multi-tiered drive to provide for exposure at either end. The various drives may be of rounded shape, so as to function in a manner similar to a universal joint, while the handle is manipulated for turning of its drive, as when used for tightening or loosening a bolt. The ratchet portion of the drive may include locking means, so as to lock the ratchet head and socket relative to its handle, once adjusted into an operative position.

A releasable locking connector for a tool, having an elongated body, at least one detent blade slidably seated within the elongated body, and more particularly a groove formed therein a spring bias collar on the body operably attached to the detent blade, the collar normally biasing the detent blade into a position for protrusion from the groove and to engage and lock in the opening of a socket or other tool.

A universal float handle device having a central arched gripping portion and a single foot formed at each end, each foot has formed in it one or more apertures which allows for the handle to be readily attached to a hand trowel float. The base of each foot is flat, and may have a marginal rim provided around its periphery, each foot having an aperture provided therethrough, with counterbores formed into both the bottom end and the upper end of each aperture, to provide clearance for accommodating the locating of a fastener therethrough, and for attaching the handle to a hand float. The aperture through one foot may be elongated, to provide a form of slot for accommodating adjustment in the locating of the fastener at that end, while the aperture provided at the opposite foot may comprise one or more apertures, to provide adjustment in the locating of the fastener when attaching that end of the handle to the hand float device. A plug inserts within the counterbore formed at the upper end of each aperture, and is contoured to mate flush with the upper surface of the handle, for the convenience of the user, and to enhance the appearance of the universal handle once installed and utilized.

An improved float, of the category of a bull float or a hand float, incorporating a body portion, and which cooperates with a reinforcing brace, which when fastened or locked into position upon the upper surface of the float, resist against twisting, bending, or warpage to the float, as a result of the sustained usage, or exposure to the extreme elements; various types of handles may be applied to the float, through the usage of a tee slot formed upon the plate portion of the float, and handles of various sizes may be accommodated upon the float, and in particular the hand float, through the alignment of selected apertures along the length of the float for accommodating fasteners for securement of the selected length of handle to the float in preparation for its usage.

A device for connecting an elongated handle to a bull float plate having a hollow body formed from four opposed walls, a bracket pivotally connected to the body for attaching the body to the top side of a bull float, a rotatable connector to removably attach an elongated handle on the body opposite the bracket, and a bevel gear assembly within the body cooperatively connecting the connector and bracket and disposed to translate the rotational movement of the handle connector into pivotable movement of the bracket thereby effecting the slight pivotal movement of the bull float and its plate.

In combination with a bull float, hand trowel, groover, finisher, and the like, an elongated handle, which adjustably mounts through a bracket with the attachment means provided upon the upper portion of such a finishing tool, with the handle means incorporating a housing, spring biasing a detent therein, which is normally held into locking engagement with the tool bracket, as when the handle is threadedly engaged within its housing, or which can be readjusted into various other angular dispositions, for the convenience of the concrete finisher, by partially withdrawing the handle from its threaded engagement within its housing, thereby disengaging its detent from the bracket, to accommodate and faciliate the undertaking of such pivotal movement for the handle, during its readjustment.

In a hand float of the type used by a concrete finisher, a plate includes a pair of integral guides extending upwardly therefrom, the upper edges of the guides being inturned, for accommodating fastening means from a handle, so that the handle may be rigidly fixed in place, when adjusted, or loosened for repositioning and before tightening for the convenience of its user.

A combination bull float, hand trowel, groover for use in conjunction therewith, and an elongated handle for attachment with the groover, or the bull float, is provided, with the groover being connectable with either of the bull float or the hand trowel for use in perfecting the finishing of freshly poured concrete. The bull float includes a plate portion having upstanding front and back walls extending upwardly therefrom, with the groover being only slightly longer than the width of the plate portion and incorporating connecting means for fastening it to the bull float, and for providing both a finishing and grooving of the concrete during its working. An elongated handle connects to a bracket upon the bull float, while the groover, if independently used, is also secured through a connector with the elongated handle for facilitating its independent usage for the grooving of finished concrete. The hand trowel is also designed to accommodate the groover, containing a plate member having upturned flanges that cooperate with engaging components of the groover to provide for its removable but secure fixing to the trowel during its usage in both finishing concrete, and providing the necessary expansion groove therein.

This invention comprises an adapter for connection with a backhoe bucket, and includes a blade member having an inclined plate secured thereto to form a wedge into which the teeth of the bucket may insert, while ratchet and turnbuckle combinations connect with the adapter, extend upwardly along either side of the bucket, and are secured by means of a cross bar, or other clamping means, to the upper back side of the bucket, and when tightened assure the firm retention of the adapter upon the backhoe as during its use for tamping, slicing, grading, or other work upon the soil.
